ZAMBIA: HOLDING RALLIES AT NIGHT HAS BEEN BANNED. (PHOTO). #PRESS RELEASE.

 PRESS STATEMENT

HOLDING RALLIES AT NIGHT HAS BEEN BANNED

22 July 2026

The Zambia Police Service wishes to reassure the nation that it remains fully committed to protecting democracy provided it operates strictly within officially approved hours. Campaigns must be held between 08:00hrs to 17:00hrs.

Accordingly, we have observed with considerable concern that Mr. Brian Mundubile and his political party have continued holding campaign rallies during the night. While these gatherings have attracted significant public attendance, they have also demonstrated an unfortunate disregard for the carefully managed timetable prescribed by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).

Following concerns rightly raised by members of the public and other interested stakeholders, the Zambia Police Service has, with immediate effect, prohibited the holding of political rallies at night. Public enthusiasm for political participation is appreciated; however, it is most welcome when exercised at times deemed administratively convenient.

We therefore urge Mr. Mundubile and his supporters to comply with this directive. Do not cry when something happens to you if you disregard this directive because we have enough manpower to handle you.  The Zambia Police Service remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring that public safety and, where necessary, political schedules—are preserved.

The public is reminded that democracy is safest when practiced within designated hours. As a people, do not allow Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu to risk your lives. We may arrest attendants and think it is the NRPUP team. Please stay away from night rallies.
