Algeria gifts Niger four military helicopters Niger's military has received four military helicopters and other equipment gifted by Algeria, airport and security sources told AFP on Tuesday. Arriving in the Nigerien capital Niamey on Sunday, the shipment included four attack and transport helicopters, spare parts, maintenance equipment and ammunition, an airport source said. Abia First Lady Disburses N50,000 Each to Over 600 Widows on International Widows’ Day

Wife of the Abia State Governor, Priscilla Otti, has disbursed N50,000 each to more than 600 widows to support their small businesses as the state marked the 2026 International Widows’ Day.

The event, themed “Justice, Dignity and Economic Power for Widows,” held at the JAAC Secretariat in Umuahia. Otti described justice for widows as a moral obligation and stressed that economic empowerment remains key to their self-reliance.

She also highlighted the Dignity Homes Initiative, under which 35 indigent widows across the state’s 17 local government areas have received completed homes and livelihood support. Seventeen more homes are planned under the programme.

Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Ngozi Blessing Felix, said the Alex Otti administration has made widows’ welfare a governance priority through healthcare, livelihood and property-rights initiatives. She called for broader collaboration to end harmful widowhood practices.
