Anambra Police Reject N200,000 Bribe, Reiterate Tinted-Glass Permit Requirement

The Anambra State Police Command has reiterated the requirement for motorists using vehicles with tinted glass to obtain the appropriate permit, in accordance with existing regulations. The command said the regulation is primarily aimed at enhancing public safety, security and effective policing across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, made this known on August 10 while clarifying an incident involving police officers who reportedly rejected a N200,000 bribe offered by a motorist stopped for using tinted glass without the required permit.
According to Ikenga, instead of accepting the money, the officers maintained professionalism and directed the motorist to either remove the unauthorised tint from the vehicle or obtain the appropriate permit where applicable. The command commended the officers for demonstrating discipline, integrity and commitment to professional policing.
It said the officers' action underscored the resolve of the Anambra State Police command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, to enforce the law without compromise. The command further explained that the tinted-glass permit requirement was not intended to harass or inconvenience law-abiding motorists, but to ensure that vehicles with tinted glasses are properly regulated for security purposes.
It noted that heavily tinted vehicles could create operational challenges for law enforcement, particularly where the occupants of a vehicle cannot be easily identified or seen and advised vehicle owners who do not wish to obtain a tinted-glass permit to remove the tint from their vehicles. It also warned motorists against offering money or other inducements to police officers in an attempt to evade lawful enforcement, stressing that such actions would not be tolerated.
The Commissioner of Police urged members of the public to report any police officer who demands money in connection with tinted-glass enforcement or any other police duty. He assured that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against any officer found culpable.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to professional, accountable and people-oriented policing, while urging Ndi Anambra and other stakeholders to continue supporting efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment across the state.
