 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

 Ebola outbreak outpacing containment efforts in DR Congo, UN chief warns


UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo is spreading faster than efforts to contain it, urging the international community to step up its response.


“The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is the fastest-spreading Ebola epidemic ever recorded,” Guterres said in a post on US social media company X on Thursday.


“It’s growing faster & wider than the response to contain it,” he said, adding that the outbreak “can be stopped.”


“We know how to contain Ebola and save lives. The world must urgently step up action to get it under control,” Guterres said, TRT Afrika reported.


As of Aug. 26, the country had reported 5,713 confirmed cases, including 2,744 deaths, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).


The latest figures represented an increase of 57 confirmed cases and 29 deaths from the previous day.
