I mistakenly followed another woman, man announces end of marriage
A Nigerian man, Ebikedoumene Bonny Jeff, has announced the end of his marriage, saying years of unresolved hurt and marital conflicts eventually led him and his wife, Yinlayefa, to choose separation.
Jeff made the disclosure in a Facebook post on Saturday, August 8, 2026, which would have marked their fifth wedding anniversary.
According to him, their relationship began in 2008 when they were dating in their village, before welcoming their daughter in 2011.
He described Yinlayefa as a caring, humble and supportive partner who stood by him during years of financial difficulties.
Jeff said that after he left for university, his wife supported the family and later secured a job at the Federal University, Otuoke, where she allegedly paid the household bills and supported him while he searched for employment.
He said he eventually secured a job in 2019, and the couple got married on August 8, 2021.
“2019, I finally got a job & we got married (August 8 2021),” he wrote.
Jeff said his wife became pregnant shortly after their wedding, but the pregnancy ended in the death of the child.
He said the loss, alongside unresolved issues from their earlier years, contributed to the deterioration of their marriage.
According to Jeff, his wife had become pregnant three times while he was still in school, but he asked her to terminate the pregnancies because of their financial circumstances at the time.
He also admitted that he later “mistakenly” followed another woman on social media, an incident he said his wife found difficult to forgive.
“I mistakenly follow another woman to her notice and she vowed not to forgive me in life. I begged her to forgive me for years but she refused,” he wrote.
Jeff said the unresolved grievances gradually affected their relationship, claiming that love, affection and support between them diminished over the years.
He said the couple subsequently experienced prolonged conflicts and emotional distance.
“Nothing was working, the silence battle,” he wrote.
Jeff also made claims about threats allegedly made during the troubled period of their marriage, saying his wife allegedly threatened to harm herself and him.
He did not provide independent evidence to support the claims.
He said the situation eventually became unbearable for both parties and that they mutually agreed to separate rather than remain in an unhappy marriage.
“Today supposed to be our 5th marriage anniversary but we choose separation for future life that nobody should die because of marriage and both parties are happy,” he wrote.
Jeff described the decision as painful but said marriage should not be treated as a matter of life and death.
“Marriage is not a do or die affair,” he added.
Despite the breakdown of the relationship, Jeff acknowledged the sacrifices his estranged wife made during their years together.
“I pray for you today, may God Almighty always protect and guide you, reward you plenty for all the sacrifices you have sacrificed in my life,” he wrote.
“You will always be my hero in my lifetime.”
Reflecting on the end of the relationship, he said, “My woman of my youth is no more with me together but life goes on. Today I am just left with memories.”
Jeff concluded by describing the collapse of the marriage as a painful end to his efforts to build a family, while maintaining that separation was the decision both parties considered best for their future
