 Flights suspended to Ethiopian holy town of Lalibela as fighting expands Flights to the historic Ethiopian town of Lalibela ​were suspended on Thursday due to fighting nearby, seven sources said, as residents in the Tigray region to the north stocked up on food and ‌cash, fearing that renewed fighting could trigger another major war. Tigrayan forces seized three local airports and launched attacks in Afar and Amhara regions with allies there this week, in the most serious escalation since a devastating 2020-22 war against Ethiopian government troops. In its first public comments on the fighting, Ethiopia's army said on Thursday that it had foiled the attacks and killed, wounded or captured more than 500 enemy fighters. The United Nations ​and the European Union called for restraint and a return to the African Union-brokered peace process that had ended a conflict that killed hundreds of thousands of people.  Netanyahu rejects Trump’s 15-point Gaza peace proposal, vows no Israeli withdrawal until Hamas disarms

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel will reject a 15-point Gaza peace proposal put forward by President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace, insisting that Israeli forces will not withdraw until Hamas is fully disarmed.

Speaking at the start of a Cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said Israel had rejected the proposal and that the Israel Defense Forces would maintain their positions in Gaza until Hamas no longer poses a threat.

Netanyahu also said Israeli forces would continue taking action to protect their troops and Israeli citizens from potential attacks.

Trump announced in July that Hamas had agreed to disarm as part of a U.S.-brokered framework that calls for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. The agreement was developed as part of a broader ceasefire arrangement reached the previous year.

Netanyahu’s rejection of the proposal creates another obstacle to efforts to advance the Gaza peace plan and secure an Israeli military withdrawal from the territory.
