 Flights suspended to Ethiopian holy town of Lalibela as fighting expands Flights to the historic Ethiopian town of Lalibela ​were suspended on Thursday due to fighting nearby, seven sources said, as residents in the Tigray region to the north stocked up on food and ‌cash, fearing that renewed fighting could trigger another major war. Tigrayan forces seized three local airports and launched attacks in Afar and Amhara regions with allies there this week, in the most serious escalation since a devastating 2020-22 war against Ethiopian government troops. In its first public comments on the fighting, Ethiopia's army said on Thursday that it had foiled the attacks and killed, wounded or captured more than 500 enemy fighters. The United Nations ​and the European Union called for restraint and a return to the African Union-brokered peace process that had ended a conflict that killed hundreds of thousands of people.  NEW JAMB REGISTRAR PROF. AINA RESOLVES OVER 5,000 PENDING COMPLAINTS IN 5 DAYS 


Difficulties in creating profile codes, biometric failures, payment issues and technical challenges are among more than 5,000 pending complaints resolved by the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Professor Segun Aina, within five days.

          

A statement by the Acting Director, Public Affairs and Protocol, JAMB, Fabian Benjamin, states that the development follows the Registrar’s decision to strengthen the Board’s Service Compact with All Nigerians, SERVICOM Unit, to ensure prompt resolution of outstanding complaints.


He says the Registrar relocates his seat to the SERVICOM Unit to gain first-hand knowledge of the services being sought by candidates and other clients, and to facilitate the resolution of pending cases.


The statement notes that the Registrar’s move demonstrates his commitment to leveraging strategic communication to reposition the Board and deliver services commensurate with the fees paid by candidates.


The complaints cover difficulties in creating profile codes by candidates who previously registered with telephone numbers to which they no longer have access, cases of biometric failures, payment-related issues, inappropriate examination venues, e-PINs, technical challenges and difficulties with uploading documents.
