PETE HEGSETH DOUBLES DOWN ON TRUMP'S 'WORLD WAR' THREAT SAYING US IS 'LOCKED AND LOADED'. (PHOTO).

Pete Hegseth doubles down on Trump's 'World War' threat saying US is 'locked and loaded'

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reinforced the administration’s hardline stance toward Iran by declaring the military “locked and loaded” in a post on X. His statement accompanied a video of President Donald Trump discussing a potential peace deal, just hours after announcing that he had called off a large‑scale strike.

By invoking readiness levels “not seen since World War II,” Hegseth underscored the administration’s message of overwhelming deterrence, even as it publicly emphasized diplomacy.

Trump has repeatedly argued that his “maximum pressure” strategy and unmatched military strength are what compel adversaries to negotiate. Hegseth’s framing of military preparedness highlighted this approach, signaling that while talks are scheduled to begin through regional intermediaries, the U.S. is prepared to escalate if diplomacy falters.

The juxtaposition of Trump’s canceled strike with Hegseth’s warning left analysts debating whether the administration is on the verge of a breakthrough or a dangerous confrontation.

International reactions have been cautious. Reports indicated that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman urged Trump to de‑escalate, warning of catastrophic consequences if further military action were taken.

Still, the administration has maintained that negotiations are being pursued from a position of strength.

Hegseth’s reference to WWII‑level readiness served as a stark reminder to Tehran that failure at the negotiating table could trigger unprecedented force, keeping tensions high as talks approach.
