Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing.   President Trump agrees to pause attacks on Iran subject to 'rapidly' making deal

 

The U.S. has agreed to pause attacks on Iran, President Donald Trump said Saturday, amid what he described as the "perimeters of a deal" being agreed upon, which would include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.


"We have just been asked by Iran, and other Middle Eastern Countries, to hold off any attack in that the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to," Trump said in a post on Truth Social. "This would include the Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat."


The president said the U.S. was "locked and loaded and ready to go" against Iran but that he agreed to cancel attacks "subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL." He added that Israel, the U.S. partner in the war with Iran, "joins me in this commitment."


"Get to work, everybody, and get it DONE," Trump wrote regarding a possible new agreement.


The statement came after the State Department on Saturday urged Americans across the Middle East to consider leaving the region or be prepared to depart on short notice, warning of flight disruptions and security risks as the conflict appeared to be escalating.


Trump had earlier threatened Iran with additional attacks, saying Friday that the U.S. will be "hitting them very hard," while Iran vowed to "punish" the U.S. as both nations traded heavy strikes.


"Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise caution and heightened vigilance and should be prepared for flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and potential travel disruptions," the State Department said Saturday.
