 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

SWAN Commiserates With Anambra Football Community Over POR Star FC Auto Crash

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has expressed their heartfelt sense of loss over the road crash involving members of the POR Star Football Club (PSFC) of Onitsha who were on their way to Awka on August 16 to honour a fixture in the ongoing All Stars Football Championship when the bus conveying them plunged into a ditch along Enugu-Onitsha expressway leaving some severely wounded and in danger.


The incident was confirmed by the Chairman of Anambra State Football Association (AnSFA), Mr Chikelue Iloenyosi, who had paid condolence visit to the club and the families of the affected persons.


SWAN, Anambra Chapter, in a Statement jointly signed by  Chimezie Anaso and Uche Ndeke, Chairman and Secretary of the association, respectively, extended their condolences to the entire football family, AnSFA and PSFC for the unfortunate incident.


“We are deeply saddened by this painful development, we recognise the passion, dedication and commitment that POR Star Football Club has consistently shown in promoting the beautiful game.


“On behalf of the entire membership of SWAN Anambra Chapter, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the management of POR Star Football Club, the players, officials, families of those affected, and all who are mourning this loss. We pray that the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and that the Almighty God grants the injured a quick and full recovery. 


“We also ask God to comfort the bereaved families and grant them the strength to come out of this period of difficult time,” it said.
