Three teenagers killed, four injured in violent Belt Parkway crash in Brooklyn

Three teenagers were killed, and four other people were hospitalized following a violent crash on Brooklyn’s Belt Parkway late Tuesday, authorities said.

Police responded shortly before midnight to a collision involving a Cadillac Escalade and a Honda HR-V near 65th Street in Bay Ridge. Both vehicles were traveling eastbound when the crash occurred.

The three teenagers inside the Cadillac, ages 16, 17, and 18, were taken to hospitals and later pronounced dead. The youngest victim, Abdul Rehman, was preparing to return to school for what would have been his senior year. His family said he was the only brother of two sisters and would have turned 17 in September.

The crash left the Cadillac severely damaged, with much of the front end crushed. Investigators believe the SUV may have been traveling at a high rate of speed in the center lane before moving into the right lane to pass a slower vehicle. The driver then apparently braked after encountering another slower vehicle.

The Honda struck the rear of the Cadillac, sending the SUV into a guardrail. The Cadillac then spun and overturned. Three of the five people inside were not wearing seatbelts and were thrown from the vehicle, while the two who remained inside were wearing seatbelts.

The two surviving occupants of the Cadillac, ages 16 and 18, were hospitalized along with two women in their 40s who were traveling in the Honda. All four are expected to survive.

Toxicology testing will be conducted on the 18-year-old Cadillac driver, who was among those killed, as part of the investigation.

Investigators are examining several factors, including speed, the driver’s experience, and whether the occupants were wearing seatbelts. The 18-year-old driver had previously received a summons for speeding and making an unsafe lane change on the Belt Parkway in January 2026. His license had also been suspended in August 2025 after he failed to respond to summonses involving speeding and driving on the shoulder on Staten Island. His driving privileges were restored in November.

The driver had no criminal record but had received six summonses. No arrests have been made in connection with the crash.
