 Abia APC Insists Senator Nkechi Nwaogu Remains Party Member, Rejects NDC Claim


The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has rejected a claim by the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) that former Senator Nkechi Justina Nwaogu has joined its ranks, insisting that the former lawmaker remains a bona fide member of the APC.


In a statement issued on Friday, September 25, 2026, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, described Nwaogu as “Mama APC” and said available party records show that she remains registered with the ruling party.


According to Aguoru, Senator Nwaogu purchased the APC Senate nomination form and participated in the party’s senatorial primary election held on May 18, 2026.


He said she polled 12,033 votes, finishing as runner-up in the primary conducted by the APC, with Hon. Erasmus Cishark serving as Returning Officer and Chairman of the Senatorial Primary Election Committee.


The APC spokesman further claimed that Nwaogu’s name was included in the party’s membership register submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on May 10, 2026, which he described as the final day for submission of party membership registers to the electoral commission.


“There is also no record of her resignation from the All Progressives Congress,” Aguoru stated.


The party argued that Nwaogu, having served as an experienced lawmaker, would understand the legal implications of belonging to two political parties simultaneously.


The APC further maintained that her registration details, including her membership card information, remain in its database as well as in the records submitted to INEC.


“For the second time, at no time did our cherished Mama APC resign her membership of the All Progressives Congress,” the statement said.


The Abia APC consequently called on the NDC to stop circulating what it described as misleading information concerning Nwaogu’s political affiliation.


The party said Nwaogu’s membership records, participation in party activities and financial records were available and could be verified by the relevant authorities.


The statement was signed by Uche Aguoru, Publicity Secretary, APC, Abia State, on September 25, 2026.
