ABIA POLICE COMMAND ARRESTS FOUR SUSPECTS FOR CONSPIRACY CHILD STEALING AND TRAFFICKING


SUSPECTS:

1.Gladys Nathaniel  ‘Female’ 48 years

2.Victor Udochukwu  ‘Male’ 47 years

3.Chijioke Obunwa  ‘Male’ 59 years

4.Onyeonoro Chinwe  ‘Female’ 43 years


RESCUED VICTIMS:

1.A 4-day-old baby

2.The baby’s mentally unstable mother


FACT OF THE CASE:

1.Acting on credible and actionable intelligence, operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU), Rapid Response Unit (RRU), Obehie, on 16/09/2026, arrested the above-mentioned suspects for conspiracy, child stealing and trafficking.


2.The suspects allegedly conspired to steal a 4-day-old baby from her mentally unstable mother and subsequently sold the infant to another person. They were apprehended following diligent police investigation.


3.The baby and mother were rescued. The mother has been released to her family for proper care and medical attention, while the infant has been handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs for protective custody.


4.The suspects are currently in Police custody, and investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), after which they will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.


5.The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, psc(+), mnips, JP, reiterates the Command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring that perpetrators of such heinous crimes are brought to justice.
