Anambra Intensifies Efforts to Tackle Flooding, Erosion, Housing and Urban Devt

‎By Ezumezu Nonyelum

‎The Anambra State Government under Governor Chukwuma Soludo has intensified efforts to transform Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi and other urban centres into functional cities with improved access to housing, transportation and essential public services.

‎The administration has embarked on the redesign and development of the Awka Capital Territory while pursuing measures to decongest major markets in Onitsha and Nnewi. It is also promoting affordable housing initiatives and strengthening land-use regulations to control urban sprawl and ensure orderly development.

‎As part of its sustainability efforts, the state government has continued to implement measures to address flooding and erosion, including the construction and rehabilitation of drainage channels, erosion-control projects and tree-planting campaigns across major communities.

‎The government has equally prioritised road rehabilitation and infrastructure development to ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity and facilitate the movement of people and goods across the state.

‎In addition, town unions and community leaders are being engaged in urban renewal initiatives and environmental programmes, with the aim of promoting cleaner, safer and more sustainable communities across Anambra.
