 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

 CSO/MEDIA REVIEW: HEALTH MINISTER PATE SCORES FG HIGH  ON HEALTH SECTOR REFORMS


The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, says civil society organisations play a critical role in strengthening Nigeria’s health system by providing feedback, identifying gaps and helping government translate policies into programmes that improve lives.


The CSO/Media-Led Mid-Year Review of Nigeria’s Health Sector Reforms and Policy Dialogue on Monday, Prof. Pate stressed the need for sustained engagement between government, civil society and other stakeholders to achieve better health outcomes.


The Minister said the Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu, recognises that rebuilding the health system after years of underinvestment will take time.


He highlighted key reforms under the Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, including stronger governance and accountability, increased health financing, the revitalisation of nearly 4,000 primary healthcare facilities and the retraining of more than 80,000 frontline health workers.


Prof. Pate also noted the expansion of health insurance and emergency care interventions, including free caesarean-section services that have benefited almost 60,000 women.


The Minister further highlighted investments in tertiary healthcare infrastructure, cancer centres and blood services, as well as the deployment of 79 new ambulances to federal tertiary hospitals.


He said the government doubled annual medical student intake in 2024 from about 5,000 to 10,800, while efforts are ongoing to strengthen the training of nurses, pharmacists and other health professionals.


On local manufacturing, Prof. Pate said malaria bed nets are now being produced in Nigeria for the first time, describing increased private-sector investment in medicines, vaccines and diagnostic products as an important step towards a more resilient and self-sufficient health system.
