 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

LABOUR PARTY CHIEFTAIN SUES UNN OVER REFUSAL TO RELEASE PETER OBI’S ACADEMIC RECORDS. (PHOTO).

 A chieftain of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has dragged the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), to court over its alleged refusal to release details of the academic records of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).


In a suit filed on September 9 at the Federal High Court in Abuja by his lawyer, Anderson Asemota, Arabambi stated that he had requested a certified true copy of Obi’s certificate number D000198 in respect of a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy issued in 1984. The request was made in line with the Freedom of Information Act, but the institution turned it down.


Court documents made available on Saturday, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), show that the applicant, a former factional spokesperson for the Labour Party, named the Vice-Chancellor of UNN and the university itself as the first and second respondents.


Arabambi is seeking an order of mandamus compelling the respondents to perform their statutory duty under the Freedom of Information Act, 2011, by determining and responding to his request dated July 16 in accordance with the provisions of the Act.


He also requested a certified true copy of the certificate, academic record or other official records upon which the degree was predicated. The request was duly delivered to and received by the respondents on August 6, 2026.


Arabambi said he expressly made the request pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, 2011, and stated the public-interest and accountability basis for it. He alleged that the respondents failed or neglected to provide the requested information within the period prescribed by the Act and did not communicate a written notice of refusal identifying the specific provision of the Act relied upon for denying access.
