 LASODA PROVIDES HEARING AIDS TO 15 PERSONS WITH HEARING IMPAIRMENT


… Reiterates Commitment To Improving Quality Of Life For PWDs


The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has provided hearing aids to 15 persons with hearing impairment as part of its efforts to promote inclusive healthcare and improve the quality of life of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the State.


The two-day hearing aid intervention was held on September 17 and 18, 2026, at Nigerbell Hearing & Speech Centre, Agidingbi, Lagos. The intervention was implemented in partnership with Nigerbell Hearing & Speech Centre, a specialised audiology facility, to ensure that the beneficiaries received appropriate assessment, fitting and professional guidance on the use of their hearing devices.


Speaking on the intervention, the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, represented by the Director, Administration and Human Resources, Mrs. Omolade Sonubi, said the provision of hearing aids was an important step towards reducing communication barriers and promoting greater participation of persons with hearing impairment in education, employment and community life.


She explained that access to appropriate hearing support could significantly improve communication, confidence and independence, noting that the initiative reflects the Lagos State Government’s commitment to ensuring that PWDs have access to essential healthcare services and assistive devices that enable them to live more fulfilling and independent lives.


“We are not just giving out hearing aids; the beneficiaries underwent comprehensive audiological evaluation two months before the presentation of the devices. This was to ensure that each beneficiary received the appropriate hearing aid to adequately address their level of hearing loss, based on professional assessment and recommendations,” she said.


She added that the Agency would continue to explore partnerships and interventions that address the specific healthcare and rehabilitation needs of persons with disabilities.


The General Manager further appreciated Nigerbell Hearing & Speech Centre for its professional support and expertise in audiological assessment, hearing aid selection and fitting, as well as post-fitting guidance.


She called for continued collaboration among government agencies, healthcare providers, development partners and other stakeholders to strengthen access to inclusive healthcare and assistive technology for persons with disabilities in Lagos State.


The beneficiaries expressed their excitement and appreciation for the intervention, noting that the hearing aids would enhance their communication and enable them to participate more meaningfully in society.
