 T-Pain Sues Akon’s Konvict Entertainment, Claims ₦647m in Unpaid Royalties

American singer T-Pain has filed a fresh lawsuit against Konvict Entertainment, the record label co-founded by Akon, accusing the company of withholding $489,047 (approximately ₦647 million) in unpaid royalties. 

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the lawsuit was filed at the Fulton County Superior Court. T-Pain alleges that Konvict breached both the recording agreement he signed with the label in 2005 and a settlement reached between both parties in 2025.

The dispute centers on more than $1.3 million (about ₦1.7 billion) that Konvict allegedly received from a distributor in late March for sales of T-Pain’s music generated during the second half of 2025.

T-Pain and Konvict have previously been involved in a lengthy legal battle. In 2018, the singer sued the label over money he claimed he was owed in connection with his fifth studio album, Oblivion. He sought at least $400,000 for an allegedly unpaid advance, alongside an accounting and payment of royalties under his recording agreement.

The matter remained unresolved for years until the parties reached a settlement in 2025. Under the agreement, Konvict agreed to pay T-Pain $114,000 (about ₦151 million), covering royalties collected through the end of 2024.

However, T-Pain now claims the latest $1.3 million payment relates to music sales from the latter half of 2025 and therefore falls outside the previous settlement.

The singer also told the court that he received separate royalty payments directly from the distributor for Freaknik: The Musical, an animated musical special produced by T-Pain.
