 2026 RAINY SEASON PEAK: OLD ENUGU/ONITSHA ROAD AT OGIDI AXIS IMPASSABLE DUE TO FLOOD *By Maureen Ugwukah* The 2026 rainy period was at its peak on September 22, causing serious flooding in parts of Anambra State. The Old Enugu/Onitsha Road at the Ogidi axis was rendered impassable following a heavy downpour that flooded the road. Motorists and other road users were forced to divert to alternative routes amid untold hardship caused by the flooding. Some road users and residents of the axis who spoke with journalists expressed regret over the yearly recurrence of flooding in the area. They said that whenever it is rainy season, both pedestrians and motorists find it difficult to use the axis. Mr. Okey Ozoh, a shuttle driver plying the Onitsha-Agulu route, decried the flood, describing it as a major obstacle that prolongs their journey and forces them to spend more fuel while searching for alternative routes.  TWO DAYS BLACKOUT: ABAGANA RESIDENTS LAMENT POWER OUTAGE

Residents of some parts of Abagana town in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State have called on the power distribution company to come to their aid in restoring electricity supply.


The residents complained that for the past two days, there has been no power supply in Abagana, particularly around Oye Agu Market to Girls' College Road axis.


They appealed for urgent intervention to rescue them from the prolonged power outage.


Mr. Ifeanyi Okeke, whose shop is located around Oye Agu Market, said he sells cold drinks and has been unable to make sales due to the lack of electricity to chill his drinks, as customers demand cold beverages.


He pleaded with the power authority to come to their rescue by restoring electricity supply to the area.


Mrs. Mercy Elem, who lives near Girls' College, Abagana, said she is a civil servant and has been unable to iron her clothes since the outage began.


She prayed that power will be restored soon to ease their hardship.


Some students of Girls' College, Abagana, Miss Mmesoma Okoli and Miss Ejima Ideke, said their environment looks like a dead zone because of the blackout.


They called on the relevant authorities to do something urgently before the situation gets out of hand.
