U.S Envoys Reach Ukraine After Putin Talks As Trump’s Peace Push Intensifies

US President Donald Trump’s top negotiators, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, have arrived in Kyiv for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, just a day after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

The White House said the US envoys held a three-hour meeting with Putin and discussed “substantive plans for next steps” aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.

The exact details of the proposals remain unclear, but US officials said they are hoping for equally productive discussions in Kyiv, with a possible announcement expected in the coming weeks.

Zelensky said Ukraine was ready for the discussions and remained interested in bringing the war to an end, while insisting that any peace agreement must include credible security guarantees.

The diplomatic efforts are unfolding alongside continued attacks. Ukraine said it struck a Russian oil refinery, an airfield and two air-defence systems, while Russia launched 108 drones and cruise missiles at Ukrainian targets overnight.

Ukrainian authorities said their air defences destroyed 82 drones and six missiles, although several locations were still hit and debris fell in other areas.

Putin’s adviser Yuri Ushakov described the Moscow talks as “constructive” and “extremely frank”, saying the discussions also covered potential economic cooperation between Russia and the United States.

Despite the renewed diplomatic activity, major obstacles remain, including territorial disputes, security guarantees and the conditions under which both sides could agree to a lasting peace.

The latest meetings represent one of the most significant diplomatic pushes yet by the Trump administration to end the conflict, but it remains uncertain whether Washington can bridge the deep differences between Moscow and Kyiv.
