Things are getting messy at the Toledo fire department, and there are no guidelines in the training manuals for this type of emergency.
33-year-old Kenasia Guilford was still smoldering after her relationship with a Toledo Fire Captain combusted on Tuesday, September 29th. However, many people in the area are beginning to feel that Kenasia is facing heavy-handed justice for making her superior look like a fool.
Kenasia and the captain with the department had been in a relationship. During that Tuesday, Kenasia received information regarding her lover that was upsetting. The exact information has not been disclosed, but the general consensus agrees he was probably using his firehose to extinguish multiple fires.
Kenasia kept this information to herself throughout the day, strategically waiting for the right moment to throw a spark on the tinder.
That moment would come later in the evening at a home in Garrison Street. Kenasia played her part as usual and got the captain to agree to be handcuffed to a set of stairs in the home.
The captain was now facing a type of heat he was unfamiliar with and was unable to bring the situation under control. Kenasia was unhappy with the answers she was provided and began a series of bad decisions that would end with her arrest
Kenasia took the captain's phone and car keys and left him cuffed to the stairs. She left the home and took his vehicle, and drove to his home.
The captain was ultimately able to escape from the cuffs and contacted a friend to pick him up. That friend would go on to make the 911 call. The call itself made little sense. When asked how the captain contacted him, if his girlfriend "took his phone", the friend actually had no clue and was unable to answer. He did tell dispatchers the captain escaped the cuffs by gnawing but was unable to elaborate. Police did report that they had to cut the cuffs off of the captain. Handcuff keys are normally interchangeable but novelty handcuffs cannot be unlocked by standard police handcuff keys.
The entire call was confusing leaving many questions. The confusing nature of the call lead many to believe the friend was enlisted so the captain could have his vengence without looking worse than he already did.
Police descended on his home and found Kenasia hiding in an upstairs bedroom.
For reasons neither fire nor police have publicly explained, Kenasia was not arrested Tuesday night. Police waited until Friday, October 2nd, before she was taken into custody. This left her waiting until Monday to appear before a judge.
At her appearance, Kenasia was formally charged with abduction, theft, theft of a motor vehicle, and burglary.
Kenasia's attorney argued in her favor, saying she posed no threat and had zero prior offenses.
The judge disagreed, saying Kenasia posed a viable threat to the captain's safety. He set her bond at $10,000 and required Kensia to submit to a GPS ankle monitor when released.
In addition to working as a firefighter, Kenasia is a registered nurse and worked in that capacity at the Lucas County Jail. The jail administration placed her on administrative leave on Friday as she was being taken into custody.
Scorned women don't mess around.
