Maraba Rido Kidnappings: "Residents Live In Fear", Mowiz Raises Alarm, Calls For Urgent Government Action

Kaduna-based On-Air Personality, Mohammed Suleman, popularly known as Mowiz, has raised concerns over recurring kidnapping incidents in Maraba Rido and its environs, alleging a lack of adequate response from government officials and security agencies.

In a statement expressing concern over the security situation in the community, Mowiz said he had engaged residents to understand the circumstances surrounding the repeated abductions, and the revelations he received were disturbing.

According to him, a recent kidnapping incident occurred about two months ago, but a resident he spoke with claimed that no security agency or government representative visited the community to investigate the incident or assess the security challenges facing the people.

Mowiz also said the resident reported that no elected representative, including the community's chairman, state lawmaker, member of the House of Representatives or senator, had reached out to them following the incidents.

He further expressed concern that the community had allegedly not formally reported the incidents to nearby military formations, police stations or the state's anti-crime outfit.

One of the major security challenges highlighted during his engagement with residents was the number of access routes into Maraba Rido.

According to Mowiz, the community reportedly has 15 different entry points, nine of which are bush paths, making it difficult for the local Joint Task Force (JTF) to effectively secure the area.

He noted that the recurring incidents have created an atmosphere of fear, forcing some residents to abandon their homes due to concerns for their safety.

Mowiz criticised what he described as insufficient efforts by the government and security agencies to address the situation, stressing that residents deserve to see concrete action to protect their lives and property.

“ No one is saying it has to end now, but we want to see efforts. Sadly, that is not the case with Maraba Rido and its environs,” he said.

He added that the continued fear among residents raises questions about how security achievements are assessed when communities remain vulnerable to repeated attacks and abductions.

The Kaduna-based broadcaster called on the administration of Governor Uba Sani and all relevant security authorities to intensify efforts to address the situation, improve security coverage and reassure residents of their safety.

He maintained that the situation was unacceptable and urged the relevant authorities to take the concerns of Maraba Rido residents seriously.
