 ONE DEAD AS TANKER OVERTURNS, CATCHES FIRE IN CROSS RIVER


One person has been confirmed dead and another sustained serious injuries after a petroleum tanker overturned and caught fire opposite the Odukpani Local Government Secretariat in Cross River State on Saturday, October 4, 2026. 

The Cross River Police Command said the tanker, which was conveying petroleum products, was involved in a road traffic accident before it burst into flames. The fire spread to nearby shops and buildings, and several vehicles were also affected. 

 The tanker driver was reportedly trapped in the fire but was rescued and taken to hospital for treatment. Police officers from the Odukpani Division were deployed to secure the area and maintain public safety, while the Fire Service was alerted to contain the blaze. 

The Command urged residents and motorists to stay away from the scene to allow emergency responders access, and said further updates would be released as verified details emerge.
