 ‎‎NAF RECEIVES FIVE NEW HELICOPTERS AS FG ACCELERATES AIRPOWER MODERNISATION ‎ The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as the Federal Government accelerates efforts to modernize Nigeria’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ capacity to respond effectively to contemporary security challenges.  ‎ ‎A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame indicates that the platforms comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters  and two H-125 helicopters. ‎ The three AW-109s, which form part of 10 recently acquired by the Federal Government, were received in Lagos on 15 September 2026, with the remaining seven expected to be delivered before the end of 2026. ‎ ‎The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the acquisition as another significant milestone in the Federal Government’s sustained investment in the modernization and re-equipment of the NAF noting that the new pl...

Bandits storm the Nigerian Defence Academy’s permanent campus in Kaduna State, murder two officers and kidnap another. By Ogbonna Ugorji  Although the incident has not been confirmed by the authorities, a security source told Daily Times that it happened in the early hours of Tuesday. The bandits who arrived in a vehicle were alleged to have entered the academy through the security gate while dressed in military uniforms, then went to the officers’ quarters. They opened fire intermittently when they arrived, killing two officers (a Major and a Squadron Leader), and subsequently abducting another Major through the academy’s neighboring bush. The sound of shooting, on the other hand, alerted NDA Quick Response Team members, who arrived on the spot but were unable to rescue the kidnapped officer since the bandits had already fled with the victim.  Court Jails Man for Romance Scam in Abuja A 25-year-old man, Yusuf Adekunle Amuda was Thursday, August 19, 2021 sentenced to six months imprisonment for internet fraud. Yusuf allegedly defrauded a Chinese woman of the sum of N2 Million (Two Million Naira) over a phony romantic relationship in the social media where he presented himself as a Sino-American Military Officer on a peace-keeping mission in Syria.He employed the false identity to extort various sums of money from his victim. Oriji of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama, Abuja, convicted Yusuf after he pleaded guilty to the one count charge brought against him by the Abuja Zonal Command of the EFCC. Five persons have been crushed to death in a fatal accident along Tombia-Amassoma road, leading to the newly opened Bayelsa State Airport. The accident which happened on Thursday evening, August 19, was said to have involved a Venza car and two tricycles heading towards Amassoma community. According to an eyewitness, Mr Stephen Jones, the driver of the Venza lost the control as a result of the downpour and rammed into two oncoming tricycles, leading to the death of five passengers with others injured. He said that men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had evacuated the corpses and deposited them at a mortuary in Yenagoa, while the injured persons were taken to hospital for treatment. However, an official of the Bayelsa State Command of the FRSC, who did not want his name mentioned, said the accident occurred due to speeding by the Venza driver.
