 The Defence Headquarters says troops eliminated over 100 terrorists, arrested 345 terrorists, and rescued 393 kidnapped victims in the month of July. The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, stated this during the monthly Defence Media Operations briefing at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja. Major General Onoja added that during the period under review, 57 terrorists surrendered, over 1,000 arms and assorted ammunition were recovered, 18 illegal refining sites were destroyed, while 250,500 litres of stolen crude oil and refined petroleum products were recovered. Speaking further, Major General Onoja, on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, reaffirmed the Armed Forces' commitment to the protection of lives and property nationwide, and their resolve to ensure that kidnapping, terrorism, secessionist agitation, and other forms of criminality are purged from society.

The Director of Public Publicity at the NCC, Reuben Mouka, told The PUNCH on a telephone call that that there would be no changes to the deadline for the next phase of disconnection The NCC’s directive for disconnection is being rolled out in stages, with the second phase set for March 29, 2024, continuing as previously announced. Students at Abia State University have expressed concerns over the rising cult-related activities on their campus, saying the menace has become a threat to their safety. This followed the reported killing of a student of the institution recently, which was attributed to cult-related violence on the campus. The students are calling on the government to put adequate security measures in place to ensure their security and safety as they continue with their studies. Speaking with newsmen, the Student Union Government President of the institution, Chidirim Chinenye, while decrying the menace, called for the deployment of military personnel and the establishment of a military barracks to crack down on the perpetrators to prevent escalation.  A Lexington Kentucky veteran fireman is fighting for his life currently after succumbing to the blaze he was attempting to battle. Ronnie Metcalf was fighting an early Tuesday morning house fire with other first responders when orders were issued to evacuate.   Once all responding crew members were outside they became aware that Ronnie was missing. Search teams re-entered the raging house fire and rescued Ronnie.  However, he is currently in Baptist Hospital fighting for his life after sustaining serious injuries.
