Kogi Government Threatens Action Against Landlords Harbouring Yahoo Boys

The Kogi State Government has vowed to take action against property owners found harboring individuals involved in cybercrime, commonly known as "Yahoo Boys," within the state.

Hon. Abanika Taiye, the Kogi State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, made this statement on Tuesday in Lokoja during a press briefing ahead of a two-day symposium on housing and urban development in the state.

Taiye expressed disappointment that some landlords were undermining the government's efforts to combat crime by providing shelter to people with questionable financial backgrounds. He revealed that the state is drafting a new bill in the House of Assembly aimed at curbing the exploitation and misconduct of property owners.

The new policy, according to Taiye, is designed to alleviate the housing sector's challenges that residents have long complained about, while regulating the activities of landlords. He emphasized the importance of establishing clear laws and policies to hold landlords accountable.

Taiye added, "The Kogi State Government is raising awareness and engaging relevant stakeholders in the building sector to ensure a comprehensive dialogue. This will help develop a blueprint that will guide the provision of housing for our people."

He also stated that the ministry has already implemented measures to address the actions of property owners who fail to comply with regulations in the state.
