  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro is arrested in Palermo after 30 years on the run.  Matteo Messina Denaro is thought to be the leader of the notorious Cosa Nostra organized crime group. He was apprehended at a medical clinic in the Sicilian capital, Palermo. He was sentenced to life in prison for dozens of murders including his involvement in the assassinations of Judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino in 1992. As he was taken away in a black SUV, people on the street in Palermo cheered and clapped. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said in a statement that the arrest was “a great victory for the state that shows it never gives up in the face of the Mafia.” Gen. Pasquale Angelosanto, who leads the Carabinieri’s special operations squad, said Messina Denaro was arrested at a private clinic in Palermo where he was being treated for an unspecified medical issue. On 16th January 2023 Italian actress Gina Lollobrigida, one of the biggest stars of European cinema in the 1950s and '60s, has died at the age of 95. Often described as "the most beautiful woman in the world", her films included Beat the Devil, the Hunchback of Notre Dame and Crossed Swords. She co-starred alongside the likes of Humphrey Bogart, Frank Sinatra, Rock Hudson and Errol Flynn. It was reported last year that her son tried to take all her fortune's. "I feel humiliated, I don't want to see him anymore". At 95, Gina Lollobrigida just wants to rest and enjoy her enormous fortune. BARBING SALOON OWNER ELECTROCUTED WHILE VANDALIZING TRANSFORMER IN NSUKKA 16th January, 2023 The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, said a barbing saloon operator, identified as Tochukwu Onah, was electrocuted while vandalizing a transformer at the weekend. The incident occurred on Saturday at Ede-Oballa, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, where the deceased’s body was found within the premises of EEDC’s transformer. The deceased, Onah, aka Toshiba, was an indigene of Ede-Oballa, who operated a barbing saloon until the tragic incident. Relaying this development to journalists in Enugu on Sunday, the Head of Corporate Communications, EEDC, Mr Emeka Ezeh, described the incident as very unfortunate, one that has cut the young man’s life short. Ezeh recalled the numerous cases of vandalism recorded by the company last year, which negatively impacted, not only the quality of service to its customers but also its revenue. Nigerian student ,  Zaynab Bilyamin, from the Federal University Dutse (FUD) , converts sachet water waste to kerosene and diesel . FUD student converts ‘pure water’ sachets to kerosene, diesel Zainab Bilyamin, a final year student of the Department of Chemistry Federal University Dutse has converted sachet water waste to hybrid fuel (kerosene and diesel) as her final year project. Her research project is titled “Conversion of low-density polyethylene and mixed low-density polyethylene with polyethylene terephthalate into fuel”. According to FUD Newsletter, the final result shows that the hybrid fuel produced from the pure water waste products has similar properties as normal kerosene and diesel as it was used to light up a kerosene lamp and power a pumping machine successfully.
