  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.      The Governor-General of Canada, Rt. Hon. Julie Payette and Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday jointly unveiled a Biobank Laboratory in Lagos designed to ensure effective management of outbreak of infectious diseases with special focus on containment and strengthening of capacity to prevent, detect and respond to all manner of threats. The Biobank, which is located within the premises of Mainland Hospital, Yaba, was delivered through a partnership between Lagos State Government and the Canadian government which contributed a total of $4.5million to the project. Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Payette said the partnership was underscored by the West Africa Ebola outbreak which brought the need for countries to intensify cooperation and coordination to prevent the spread of diseases and to effectively counter epidemics to the fore.      Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday awarded N10million seed fund to the best three graduating students of the  Ready.Set.Work  (RSW) Initiative, saying that he was fulfilled that his administration was nurturing graduates that would contribute immensely to the development of the State and Nigeria in general. 20 year- old graduate of the Lagos State University (LASU), Miss Afolayan Vivian who emerged winner of the Pitch Competition got N5million, while Popoola Joshua and Miss Adeniyi Miriam finished in second and third position to take home N3million and N2million respectively, courtesy of the Governor.        In its determination to reposition tertiary education in Ekiti State, the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has set up a Visitation Panel for the College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti. The Visitation Panel was set up via an Executive Order 004, signed by the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi on Monday, October 29, 2018. The College of Education, Ikere- Ekiti Law 2007 provides that the Visitor may conduct a visitation of the College in person, or direct that such a visitation be co nducted by persons appointed by him to advise on the effective fulfillment of the objects and the due exercise of the functions of the College as prescribed by law. President Muhammadu Buhari, the Inspector General of Police, the National Security Adviser, the Director-General SSS, and other Security heads are at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Hall, Murtala Sqaure, meeting with Traditional Rulers, Religious Rulers and Community leaders from crisis affected Communities in the State.  Also in attendance, are the Emir of Zazzau, HRH, Alhaji Shehu Idris and the Minister of Finance, Hajiya Zainab Ahmed.
