 Outcries Over State Recognised Vigilantes In North-West   The security outfits established by various state governments, especially in the North-West, are being accused of indiscriminate arrests and killing of suspects, as well as innocent people without recourse to judicial processes, findings by Daily Trust Saturday revealed. But those charged with the responsibility of managing the outfits have debunked the claims of extrajudicial killings, though some admitted what they described as “overzealousness” by some of the operatives. It was alleged that in some states, long lists of suspected bandits, their supporters or sympathisers have been arrested and ultimately killed, and such acts are allegedly being carried out without recourse to the police and other law enforcement agencies. Whenever a national army, such as the Nigerian Army leaves its professional domain of legal exhibition of violence and starts thinking, acting, researching and venturing into academic and intellectual affairs, it tends to arouse societal attention principally because an army of a nation is basically, professionally established to fight adversaries, defend the nation, secure and contribute to the development of the nation and its citizens. CANADIAN GOVERNOR-GENERAL,PAYETTE,AMBODE UNVEIL LAGOS BIIOBANK LAB TODAY.{PHOTOS}.

     The Governor-General of Canada, Rt. Hon. Julie Payette and Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday jointly unveiled a Biobank Laboratory in Lagos designed to ensure effective management of outbreak of infectious diseases with special focus on containment and strengthening of capacity to prevent, detect and respond to all manner of threats. The Biobank, which is located within the premises of Mainland Hospital, Yaba, was delivered through a partnership between Lagos State Government and the Canadian government which contributed a total of $4.5million to the project. Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Payette said the partnership was underscored by the West Africa Ebola outbreak which brought the need for countries to intensify cooperation and coordination to prevent the spread of diseases and to effectively counter epidemics to the fore. AMBODE GIVES N10MILLION SEED FUND TO BEST THREE READY.SET.WORK GRADUATES TODAY.{PHOTOS}.

     Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday awarded N10million seed fund to the best three graduating students of the  Ready.Set.Work  (RSW) Initiative, saying that he was fulfilled that his administration was nurturing graduates that would contribute immensely to the development of the State and Nigeria in general. 20 year- old graduate of the Lagos State University (LASU), Miss Afolayan Vivian who emerged winner of the Pitch Competition got N5million, while Popoola Joshua and Miss Adeniyi Miriam finished in second and third position to take home N3million and N2million respectively, courtesy of the Governor. The  Ready.Set.Work  initiative, a brain child of the present administration is an employability and entrepreneurship program aimed at preparing final year students in Lagos State for immediate entry into the work force as employees and employers of labour.        In its determination to reposition tertiary education in Ekiti State, the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has set up a Visitation Panel for the College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti. The Visitation Panel was set up via an Executive Order 004, signed by the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi on Monday, October 29, 2018. The College of Education, Ikere- Ekiti Law 2007 provides that the Visitor may conduct a visitation of the College in person, or direct that such a visitation be co nducted by persons appointed by him to advise on the effective fulfillment of the objects and the due exercise of the functions of the College as prescribed by law.      President Muhammadu Buhari is now in Kaduna State. The President will meet with communities affected by the recent violence in the State. President Muhammadu Buhari, the Inspector General of Police, the National Security Adviser, the Director-General SSS, and other Security heads are at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Hall, Murtala Sqaure, meeting with Traditional Rulers, Religious Rulers and Community leaders from crisis affected Communities in the State.  Also in attendance, are the Emir of Zazzau, HRH, Alhaji Shehu Idris and the Minister of Finance, Hajiya Zainab Ahmed.
