 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. The Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Ikoyi, Lagos, arrested Cynthia Atuonah, 21, over a romance scam in which she allegedly duped a German of $220,000 (N101 million). She confronted her husband and his response threw her off balance.  However, instead of carrying out the domestic duties she was assigned, the girl deviated and chose to carry out marital responsibilities on behalf of her madam. She slept with her employer's husband whenever she was sent on errands until she got pregnant for him. Simultaneously, the DIG DFA has also been charged with mandating the Commissioner of Police (Welfare) to compile a list of members of the rank and file who are due and deserving of elevation to their next ranks. Alleged N3 Bn Fraud: Court Adjourns Trial of Gov. Yahaya Bello’s Nephew Till May 30 The Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice Obiora Egwuatu has fixed May 30 and 31 for continuation of the trial of Ali Bello, a nephew to Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, who is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over a N3 billion fraud. Bello was arraigned alongside two others at the Federal High Court  on 18 charges of money laundering and misappropriation of about N3 billion. The two other co-defendants are: Abba Adauda, Yakubu Adabenege, and Iyada Sadat. Another defendant, Rashida Bello, is at large. When the matter was called on Tuesday, the Prosecution, led by Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, called the first witness Mr Nicholas Oyemomoni of the American International School, Abuja. 78 crushed to death during Ramadan stampede 20 April 2023  At least 78 people have been killed in a crush at a school in the Yemeni capital Sanaa during a distribution of charity for Ramadan, officials say. Video footage on social media shows chaotic scenes after the incident in the Bab-al-Yemen area of the city. Reuters news agency reports that hundreds of people crowded into the school to receive donations which amounted to about $9 (£7) per person. Houthi rebels have run the city since they drove out the government in 2015. Those responsible for the distribution have been detained and an investigation is under way, the interior ministry said. A spokesman for the ministry blamed the crush on the "random distribution" of funds without co-ordination with local officials. El-Rufai raises the alarm over insecurity ahead May 29 20 April 2023 The Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, on Wednesday, warned that bandits could take advantage of the transition period to launch bloody attacks in the country. Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starship Rocket Crashes April 20, 20230 Elon Musk’s ambition to launch the largest rocket ever built into space has experienced a disastrous outing. Starship, built by his company SpaceX is experimenting initial plans to take passengers to the moon and Mars. But the attempted launch on Thursday exploded just before the rocket could make it into space in what was described as “a rapid unscheduled disassembly”. Cult war rages in Port Harcourt, one killed  A man in his twenties, identified as Asari, has been shot dead in the Diobu axis of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. Naija News learnt that the victim was killed on Wednesday night, at about 7:55 pm during a clash among rival cult groups along Ekwe/Ikwerre road, Mile 3 Diobu in the metropolis. Eyewitnesses said Asari was standing with some persons when about five armed men came out from a car, rained bullets on him, and zoomed off. FG Grants Nigerian Citizenship To 385 Foreigners April 20, 20230 President Muhammadu Buhari The Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the granting of Nigerian citizenship to 385 foreign nationals residing in the country. The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, announced the FEC granted the approval on Wednesday adding that 317 of the applicants bagged their citizenship by naturalisation; while 68 received theirs by registration. Aregbesola said all the applicants met the requirements for such an honour. “Federal Executive Council at its meeting today approved the granting of Nigeria’s citizenship by naturalization to 317 applicants and Nigeria’s citizenship by registration to 68 applicants. 26 Remanded In Prison Over Cult Related Killings In Enugu April 20, 20230 26 persons have been remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Custodial Centre following their arraignment by the Enugu Police Command for their involvement in the various cult related killings that ravaged the state in the last couple of weeks. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said they were arrested by Police Operatives of the Command’s Anti-cultism Squad and subsequently arraigned before the court. The suspects are between the ages of 18 and 40 years.
