The President has also approved the appointment of Prince Ebitimi Amgbare as the Managing Director/CEO of the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority (NDRBDA). Dr. Barikor is an academic and politician. He was a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2015, while Prince Amgbare is a retired naval officer and former commissioner in Bayelsa State. The President expects that the new heads of these important agencies will discharge their duties with utmost fidelity to the nation and unfailing adherence to the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and excellent service to the people of Nigeria.  Gunmen open fire at Anambra residents, kill four 10 January, 2023 Four persons, including a woman,.were on Tuesday killed by hoodlums in Eziani in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State. The yet-to-be-identified deceased lost their lives during an indiscriminate shooting by the miscreants armed with Ak47. The Nation gathered that the hoodlums immediately took to their heels, leaving the deceased in the pool of their blood. Rwanda can no longer offer refuge to people fleeing violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo, President Paul Kagame said Monday, stoking already high tensions between the two neighbours. Persistent fighting in the east of the mineral-rich DRC pits federal troops against rebels from the M23 group, which has captured swathes of territory. The DRC, along with the United States and several European countries, has repeatedly accused Rwanda of backing the rebels from M23, although Kigali denies the charge. Tensions have soared and thousands have fled the battles into neighbouring states, including Rwanda. In November, the UN said around 72,000 Congolese had crossed into Rwanda. The Joint Security Task Force in Fort Portal City, Kamwenge and Kyenjojo has in custody three suspects behind the theft of motor vehicle number plates. A task team of the Flying Squad led by the RPC, and intelligence zeroed on one female suspect, identified as Bonabana Glades, an associate who led us to Kabonesa Sharon, a lodge attendant at Mutabazi Guest House where the prime suspect, one Kissebo Richard, was arrested.  Upon arrest, Kisembo took our officers to various places of Kitumba, Bukwali, Kijura and others where around 12 motor vehicles were recovered.  The criminal gang after plucking off number plates, would leave behind their numbers 0759487032, 0760687751 and 0706 162394, where they would ask the victims to deposit one hundred thousand shillings (100,000) before telling them where the number plates are hidden. I Will Stand As Nnamdi Kanu’s Surety If Granted Bail – Senator Orji Uzor Kalu The Chief Whip of the Senate, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu says he will stand as surety for the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu if granted bail again. “I will stand surety for him (Kanu) if the Federal Government wants to release him to me,” Kalu said on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm programme aired on Tuesday monitored by ABN TV. WIKE PRESENTS CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION TO OBA OF OGBALAND   Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has presented certificate of recognition and Staff of office to His Royal Majesty (Dr.) Nwachukwu S. Obuoha as Obi III, Oba (Eze Ogba) of Ogbaland.   The brief presentation ceremony held at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.   Governor Wike said the king was long recognised by the State government, the day he was coronated as Oba of Ogbaland.    He stated that the presentation event was mere ceremony to affirm what has been done.   Governor Wike charged the king to use the opportunity of being the traditional father over Ogbaland to foster unity, promote peace and harmony among his subjects.   The Rivers State governor noted that the throne, while the former King Chukumela Nnam Obi II was alive, commanded honour, respect and candour across Nigeria.   Governor Wike advised the king not to indulge in any act that will bring the throne to disrepute.

 Over 7,000 nurses across the city went on strike Monday morning, after their union failed to secure new contract agreements demanding increased staffing levels at Montefiore Medical Center and Mount Sinai Hospital. The New York State Nurses Association’s negotiations with Mount Sinai and Montefiore management reached a deadlock overnight following months of bargaining for the union’s first new contracts at each hospital since before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. No new bargaining sessions have been scheduled since the strike commenced, a union spokesperson said. Both hospitals said they paused or rescheduled elective procedures slated for Monday, requested ambulance diversions and started discharging as many patients as safely possible. Mount Sinai also transferred babies out of its intensive care unit to hospitals outside its network.
