Belarus frees Nobel laureate Bialiatski in swap for US sanctions relief  Belarus has released Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ales Bialiatski and opposition leader Maria Kolesnikova from prison, human rights advocate Pavel Sapelka of the Viasna group confirmed. Their release coincides with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s efforts to improve ties with the United States. Earlier, Washington announced it was lifting sanctions on Belarus’s potash sector, and in return, Lukashenko pardoned 123 prisoners. Belarus, a close ally of Russia, has faced years of Western isolation and sanctions over human rights abuses and for allowing Russian military operations on its territory. Since July 2024, Minsk has released hundreds of prisoners as part of efforts to ease tensions with the West. U.S. Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale described recent talks in Minsk as “very productive” and said the countries are moving from “baby steps to more confident steps” toward normalizing relations. GOV. OBASEKI IS SET TO BUILD 500 PRIMARY HEALTHCARE CENTRES NEXT MONTH.{PHOTO}.

     Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has revealed plans to build at least 500 primary healthcare centres and revamp the state’s nursing school, beginning next month, April, to provide a conducive environment for the implementation of the compulsory health insurance scheme. Obaseki disclosed this when he received members of the newly inaugurated Governing Board of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) at the Government House, in Benin City, the Edo State capital. The governor said the bill for setting up compulsory health insurance has reached advanced stage at the Edo State House of Assembly, stressing that the focus on primary healthcare by his administration is to ensure that basic healthcare needs are accessible and affordable by ordinary people.          In an official statement sent in by a reliable source,it is clear and obvious that Sierra Leone election has been cancelled.The document above states:                    Freetown,24 March 2018-The National Electoral Commission is aware that the High court has issued an interim injunction ,against the conduct of the run off Presidential election to be held on 27 March.The Commission awaits service of official documents,but understands that the matter will return to court on Monday,26 March.                     Accordingly,while legal proceedings are on-going,the Commission will continue its practical and logical preparation for the run-off.                     We call on the people of Sierra Leone to be patient as our institution s carry out their respective duties,in accordance with constitution. ...
