  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. 15 INMATES,ESCAPED FROM ENUGU STATE PRISON YESTERDAY NIGHT.

                          According to sources,at least 15 inmates have escaped in a jail break at Nsukka Prison in Enugu.Although prison officials have not confirmed the exact number of inmates that escaped,sources said the inmates scaled the perimeter fence and escaped.The Comptoller of Prosons in Nsukka,Lawrence Okonkwo,confirmed the jail break.He said ''Yes there was a jail-break last night in Nsukka prison but I am not in a position to say how many prisoners escaped''.

U.S DONATES AN ADDITIONAL $37 MILLION TO ASSIST NORTHEAST NIGERIA.{PHOTO}.

                 Following a trip to Maiduguri at the center of the Boko Haram insurgency this week,USAID's Office for Foreign Disaster Assistance Director Jeremy Konyndyk announced $37 million in new funding to support additional humanitarian assistance for people affected by the conflict and severe food insecurity in Nigeria and throughout the Lake Chad Basin.At a press conference today wednesday at the Nigeria Emergency Management Agency,Konyndyk said the funding for assistance implemented by International NGO s and UN agencies brings the total USAID humanitarian support for the region to $318 million since last year.The United States is the single largest humanitarian donor to the region.''The United States is committed to supporting Nigeria to ease this humanitarian crisis,'' Konyndyk said,and help sustain this vulnerable population until they can resume livelihoods upended by conflict'''.Despite gradually improving security conditions,the humanitar

                  According to PM News,Prof Babatunde Osotimehin,the Executive Director,UN Population Fund {UNFPA},says a Husband's School will be introduced in Nigeria to boost access to family planning and other reproductive health services.The excutive director made this known during an interactive session with the media in Abuja today wednesday.Osotimehin said he is in Nigeria to work with the Federal Government through its vatrious agencies looking at human developmemt through the intervention of family planing.He said ''I am talking about human development in the broad sense because most people restrict family planning to the context of saving the mother's life.Saving the mother's life component of family planning is also important,but family planning goes far beyond saving mother's life''.He explained the concept of the husbands school,which started in Niger Republic,was now replicated in many parts of Africa.He said a mentor would talk to the men

LAGOS RENAMES OLOKUN NURSERY & PRIMARY SCHOOL IN ILASAMAJA TO DELE AJOMALE NURSERY & PRIMARY SCHOOL.

                The Lagos State Government has approved the renaming of Olokun Nursery and Primary School II,in Ilasamaja,Oshodi/Isolo Local Government of the State.A release by the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board said the school would henceforth he known as Dele Ajomale Nursery and Primary School,Ilasamaja.It noted that the renaming is in recognition of the contributions of Hon. Dele Ajomale to the Development of the school as well as the progress of education in the State.Recall that Lagos State Government had recently created three additional primary schools in order to ensure that basic education is available in all nooks and crannis of the State.

                        American-born Nigerian professional rower,Chierika Ukogu made history yesterday tuesday after qualifying for the semi-finals of rowing at the ongoing Rio 2016 Olympics.The 23 year old Stanford graduate and soon to be medical student to the rowing semi-finals came in fifth in the third quarter final of the Women's single sculls in 7:54.44 secs.She is Nigeria's first ever rower in the Olympics to have got that far,the semi-finals will be on wednesday.''Heading into Rio,it's a really wonderful opportunity for Nigeria.This is the first time we've had an athlete at the Olympics in the sport of Rowing'',said Okungu to the Press.More photos below.
