  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.   The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a video which has gone viral on the social media alleging that a soldier, Lance Corporal Adamu Galadima, was involved in an alleged case of kidnapp and murder of his neighbour's child after collecting the sum of N5million as ransom. The Nigerian Army wishes to state that the information contained in the video is not true. Contrary to the claim, Lance Corporal Adamu Galadima was duly dismissed from the Nigerian Army in 2013 after a General Court Marshal that held in Kaduna had found him guilty. His last unit was 2 Provost Group where he was involved in a case of attempted murder leading to his arrest and prosecution before the General Court Marshal in Kaduna. After his dismissal, Adamu found his way to Kaduna State Environmental Services where he secured a job as a cleaner.   The Lagos State Government has spoken of its efforts in reducing unemployment, saying no less than 125,000 direct and indirect jobs have been created in the last two years. Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke, announced the figure while addressing the media in commemoration of the second year in office of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu at Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja. The Commissioner said that the partnership initiative of the State Government with the Federal Government in giving soft loans and grants as well as making empowerment initiatives have assisted greatly in bridging skills-gap, unemployment rate and poverty. Governor Obiano issued the directive when he embarked on inspection of the project in company of his wife, Dr. Ebelechukwu Obiano and other dignitaries. According to the governor who said that the state did not borrow funds to finance the project, he pointed out his satisfaction at the quality of work, coupled with the architectural and engineering design. He stressed that the only challenge is the pace of work, asking the contractor to pace up. The Commissioner for Housing, Architect Mike Okonkwo who described it as a multi-purpose edifice, said that the project is already at the finishing stage, as the roof covering is almost completed.
