 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. Mob Beats Lagos Policeman Unconscious For Pushing Man Into BRT Lane A mob beat a yet-to-be-identified policeman to a stupor after a man identified simply as Yusuf was rammed by a BRT vegicle from the impact of being allegedly pushed by policemen in the Ketu area of Lagos State. It is gathered from eyewitnesses at the scene that the policeman and his colleagues were attempting to dispossess Yusuf of his vehicle when he got pushed into the BRT lane. In the process, one of the BRT buses plying the lane inward Lagos rammed into Yusuf who collapsed due to the impact of the crash. Mali, Burkina Faso Send Delegation To Niger Republic For Solidarity, Warn ECOWAS To Stay Off Mali and Burkina Faso will send a joint delegation to Niamey, the capital of Niger, on Monday in a show of solidarity amidst a coup crisis, the Malian army said. “Burkina Faso and Mali are sending a delegation to Niamey to show the solidarity of the two countries with the brotherly people of Niger,” the army tweeted. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the transitional governments of Burkina Faso and Mali, which were established after the military took power by force in 2020 and 2022 in the two countries, also declared their support for the Nigerien soldiers who overthrew President Mohamed Bazoum. NAF SPECIAL FORCES RESCUE KIDNAPPED VICTIMS IN KADUNA STATE Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Special Forces on night patrol on 6 August 2023, near Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State, rescued 7 kidnapped victims comprising 6 females and a male, in the early hours of 6 August 2023.  The female victims on interrogation, revealed that they were kidnapped from Paikoro in Niger State while the lone male victim stated that he was picked up against his will from Rijau in Niger State. On sighting the troops, the terrorists abandoned their victims and fled into a nearby forest. The victims were subsequently taken to NAF Medical facility at Birnin Gwari for review and subsequently released, less the male victim who is still being observed.  The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar has since commended the efforts of the troops while calling for intensified efforts towards ensuring all areas within Kaduna State and environs are free of terrorists, kidnappers and other criminal elements.   Edward Gabkwe

No plot to impeach Deputy Governor--- Obaseki Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki has stated that there is no plan to impeach his Deputy Comrade Philip Shaibu. The Governor however noted the move by Shaibu to seek a court order to stop his purported impeachment is preemptive ahead of his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Natives feared dead as illegal fuel dump explodes in Rivers An unspecified number of people has been reported dead following an explosion that occurred at an illegal fuel dump in Okari Jetty in Okirika Local Government Area in Rivers State. It was gathered there had been efforts by some influential persons to suppress the incident that occurred on Monday night, July 31st. Though some sources said 16 persons were feared dead during the incident, others said only two fishermen lost their lives in the process. An activist, who spoke in confidence, explained that some residents came out to scoop fuel from a barge discharging fuel at a depot owned by the Port Harcourt refinery. The source said: “During the process, the hose connected to the refinery depot pulled out of the barge while transporting the fuel. Bandit kingpins beg for amnesty in North-West With the sustained aerial bombardments on their locations and hideouts by men of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), notorious bandit kingpins in North-Western States of Nigeria have begged for dialogue and amnesty from the government. Senate confirms 45 Ministerial nominees as El-Rufai and two others await clearance The Senate has concluded the screening of 45 of the 48 ministerial nominees of President Bola Tinubu. During it plenary today August 7, the Senate confirmed 45 of the nominees as cabinet members. Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the nominations to a series of voice votes, of which three of them, former Governor of Kaduna State Nasir El-Rufai, Stella Okotete (Delta State), and Abubakar Danladi (Taraba State)are still undergoing security clearance. TROOPS OF OPERATION HADARIN DAJI RESCUE 5 KIDNAP VICTIMS, NEUTRALIZE SCORES OF ARMED BANDITS Troops of the Joint Task Force Northwest Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) have continued to record more successes, as they rescued 5 kidnapped victims, neutralized scores of armed bandits and recovered arms and ammunition.  In a recent development,  Troops of Sector 1  OPHD in Zamfara State responded to a distress call about armed bandits kidnapped activities and robbery along Tsafe - Gusau highway between Tazame and Tabbani villages under Bungudu LGA of Zamfara State. Troops swiftly moved to the scene and on arrival a gun duel ensued with the bandits. However, due to  superior firepower and tactical abilities, the troops forced the Bandits to flee and abandoned the kidnapped victims. How removal of fuel subsidy pushed me into robbing passengers- Lagos e-hailing driver.  A 29-year-old Lagos State e-hailing driver and accounting graduate, Adeniran Jerimiah, was arrested for robbing a female passenger. Jerimiah was arrested in a shop in the Ikotun area of the state while trying to purchase an item. He was recognised by one of his former victims who was in the same shop at that particular time and alerted the public. He claimed the hike in fuel price as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy pushed him into robbing.

 Ondo police detectives arrest photographer with human parts Police detectives in Ondo state, have arrested a 26 year old photographer, Franklin Akinyosuyi, suspected to be a ‘yahoo boy’ for being in possession of human parts. Akinyosuyi, who owns a boutique, was arrested in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West local government area of Ondo State. Our correspondent gathered that as the head of a human was discovered in a sack inside the room of the suspect in a rented apartment in the area. It was learnt that the children of the landlord of the apartment who discovered the human part raised the alarm and police detectives were invited. A search by the police detectives, it was gathered resulted in the discovery of human parts and other items suspected to charm,.and human blood. Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has filed a fresh suit against President Bola Tinubu, in the US. Disclosing this to newsmen, the Special Assistant on Public communications to Atiku, Phrank Shaibu, in a statement released, said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, withdrew the case against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois County, in the United States of America because he filed a fresh case against the President in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.   The Circuit Court of Cook County had dismissed Atiku’s lawsuit seeking to get access to Tinubu’s educational records at the Chicago State University.
