 King Charles III to resume public duties next week after cancer treatment The British monarch, King Charles III, will resume his public duties next week following a three-month break to focus on his treatment and recuperation. A few months ago, the British monarch was diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer and has been receiving treatment. However, Buckingham Palace on Friday said the monarch would be visiting a cancer treatment centre on Tuesday, the first of several public appearances he will make in the coming weeks. According to the palace, one of his first major engagements will be to host a state visit by the emperor and empress of Japan in June. The former Anambra governor said the donation should be used to buy a bottle of Coke for each of the hospital workers.

Rivers crisis: Court declares Fubara’s ally, Ehie, authentic Speaker A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday, confirmed Edison Ehie as the authentic Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly. Ehie is one of the four lawmakers backing Governor Siminalayi Fubara in the ongoing face-off between him and his immediate predecessor, Nyesom Wike. Edison was suspended and removed as leader of the House by his colleagues who are loyal to Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Giving the ruling, Justice M.W. Danagogo also ordered Martins Amaewhule and Dumle Maol to stop parading themselves as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. FG to deploy drones in Nigeria’s borders Federal Government says it plans to deploy drones for monitoring and protection of the country’s vast borders.   Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, disclosed this on Tuesday while speaking at a press conference where she outlined the activities to mark this year’s International Migrants’ Day. Adepoju said the Federal Government was in discussion with a Chinese giant, Huawei, to deploy Artificial Intelligence to secure the borders.  10 die, seven injured as bus rams into truck on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway No fewer than 10 persons have died in an auto crash that occurred on Tuesday morning when a bus rammed into a truck around Kara turning on the Lagos- Ibadan Expressway. Seven other persons also sustained varying degrees of injuries from the accident. The crash involved a Toyota Haice Bus of Ash colour with registration number: FKY898YF and an Iveco tipper truck of Orange colour with no registration number. Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun State, Florence Okpe, confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Tuesday. Gunmen attack Daewoo convoy, kill 4 soldiers, 2 drivers Gunmen operating along the East/ West Road have attacked a convoy of workers of Daewoo company on their way to Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. According to security sources the gunmen killed four soldiers and two drivers on escort duties for the companies, while two top officials of the company who are Korean nationals were abducted. The incident which occurred in spite of the heavy security presence on the road caused pandemonium as many drivers from Tombia and Ekeki park in Yenagoa and Choba and Rumola in Port Harcourt refused to load passengers.  Akeredolu Proceeds On Fresh Medical Leave   Following the political crisis over his continued absence from official duty, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has proceeded on a fresh medical leave outside the state.  Governor Akeredolu, in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, also asked his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to take over power in an “acting capacity” while he was away on a medical trip. In a copy of the statement obtained by Daily Trust, the ailing Ondo governor said a letter regarding his medical leave and a notice formally transferring power to Aiyedatiwa in line with the constitution would be transmitted to the State House of Assembly. FG Unveils New Foreign Policy Federal Government has unveiled its Four D foreign policy document in Abuja. At the launch, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar said the new foreign policy document was aimed at showcasing the values and interests of Nigeria. Ambassador Tuggar said the four Ds foreign policy document which centered on Democracy, Development, Demography and Diaspora were aimed at enhancing good governance and improving the living standard of the people through development. Nigerians Put Judiciary on Trial, Says Justice Tsoho The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, says the judiciary has been put on trial due to recent court decisions, especially those related to elections. Justice Tsoho made this statement in Abuja during a special session of the court marking its new legal year and its Golden Jubilee Anniversary. He emphasized the need for judges to protect the independence and sanctity of the judiciary, considering the current public opinion of the judiciary. Justice Tsoho also mentioned that the Court will enter the new legal year with over 140,000 cases but expressed confidence in addressing them promptly alongside his fellow judges. “In the past legal year, 15,025 cases were filed, and 12,870 were resolved.  Lagos sacks five LASTMA officials for corruption, reprimands two others The Lagos State Government has sacked five officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) for corruption and reprimanded two others. Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, in a statement on Monday, said the Personnel Management Board (PMB) found them wanting and terminated their appointments. He said letters of termination of appointments and reprimand were handed over to the indicted LASTMA officials. Adebayo confirmed that all recommendations made by the Personnel Management Board on the seven indicted LASTMA officials during their meeting on Tuesday, 19th of August, 2023 were ratified by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission. Adebayo said, “While Five LASTMA officials who were indicted for corruption received a letter of termination of appointment, the remaining two received letters of ‘reprimand’ for absence from duty posts without leave.” Simila
