  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.        In Furtherance of his efforts to commiserate with victims of the petrol tanker explosions in Ochanja Market and Omagba, Onitsha, the Senator representing Anambra South and national leader of Young Progressives Party (YPP), Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah on Friday visited the scenes of the explosions and survivors who are presently receiving treatment at Toronto Hospital   Onitsha. The Senator who moved straight to the scenes immediately after his return from Abuja urged the marketers to keep hope alive as efforts are already in place to give them every necessary assistance. He further informed them that he is relentlessly working towards a Bill that will prevent such tragedy across the country in the future. In their response, the marketers who jubilated upon sighting the Anambra South Senator thanked him for his efforts so far in promoting the Igbo economy. They further said that the Senator’s visit is a big relief to them because he has given them more reason to keep hope alive.

LAGOS ALERTS RESIDENTS ON RISE IN SEA WATER LEVEL,FLOODING OF LOW LINE AREAS.#PRESS RELEASE.

      Lagos State Government has alerted residents on the rise of sea water level resulting in the inability of the lagoon to discharge water into the ocean, thereby causing backflow into the drainage channels. According to the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tunji Bello, officials of the state are already working on different measures that would allow easy flow of water in the af fected areas. He added that the state Government is also in talks with the officials of the Ogun Osun River Basin Authority which is releasing water to do so gradually. He explained that the rise in sea level has contributed to current flooding in many parts of Ikoyi, V.I, Dolphin and Oworoshoki because the lagoon can no longer discharge, which he said, is causing back flow into drainage outlets.      Lagos State Government has again reiterated the need for citizens to ensure and maintain adequate personal and environmental hygiene at all times as part of precautionary measures to prevent the outbreak of infectious diseases such as Monkey pox which was recently reported in the State. Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi who stated this earlier on in the week during the biosecurity update meeting on the situation report of Monkey Pox disease in the State, urged residents to observe the highest possible standards of personal and environmental hygiene especially through regular washing of hands with soap and running water and attention to environmental exposure. A MORTUARY GOT BURNT TODAY AT ENUGWU-UKWU GENERAL HOSPITAL,ANAMBRA STATE.{PHOTOS}.

      Fire incident that razed the mortuary section of Enugwu -Ukwu General Hospital in Njikoka local Government Area of Anambra State has burnt the dead bodies inside the mortuary beyond recognition. It was gathered that the incident which took place Saturday started at about 5.41pm. According to reports from the police, its Patrol team led by DPO Nimo Division CSP EGU Benjamin on hearing the news had rushed to the scene and cordoned off the Area to prevent looters from taking advantage of the situation to loot. It was gathered that the Police had contacted the fire Service department who arrived at the scene and put off the fire with the help of local volunteers. It would be recalled that the fire has caused extensive damage in the building as almost all the corpses at the mortuary was burnt beyond recognition. As at the time of filling this report, the cause of the fire incident is yet unknown.

      Justice Agathar Okeke of the Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Thursday, October 17, 2019, revoked the bail granted on March 27, 2019, to Asoqwo Henry Mfon, a fake military officer who is being prosecuted by the Uyo Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for N700,000.00 fraud. . . The bail was revoked following a mild drama in court when Mfon, refused to open his passworded mobile phone (Tecno Spark 3) to enable the court compare pictures of him wearing military uniforms snapped with his phone and the ones printed from the phone which were presented by the second prosecution witness in the case, PW2, Suleiman Abba. . .      Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has advised the Nigerian Army to focus on their traditional role of securing the country, instead of illegally delving into politics, which has destroyed their image . Governor Wike also said that the neglect of critical areas of constitutional responsibility by the Nigerian Army has negatively affected its ability to perform.
