Image
UK Suspends Some Arms Sales to Israel, Drawing Criticism from Netanyahu Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has condemned the UK government's decision to suspend 30 out of 350 arms export licenses to Israel, labeling it "shameful." In a statement on social media, Netanyahu criticized the UK for not standing with Israel, a fellow democracy, during its fight against what he termed "barbarism." He argued that this "misguided decision" would only serve to embolden Hamas amid ongoing tensions in the region. The suspension was announced by UK Defence Secretary John Healey, who emphasized that the UK remains a "staunch ally" of Israel. Healey explained that the suspended licenses pertain to equipment that could be used for offensive purposes in Gaza, while the majority of arms exported to Israel are either unrelated to the conflict or intended for defensive use. The timing of the announcement has drawn criticism, particularly as it coincided ...

WE FEEL BETRAYED — NLC, AS THE PMS PUMP PRICE CONTINUE TO RISE. (PHOTO). #PRESS RELEASE.

Image
WE FEEL BETRAYED — NLC 03 Sep 2024  Press Statement (03/09/2024) WE FEEL BETRAYED We are filled with a deep sense of betrayal as the federal government clandestinely increases the pump price of pms. One of the reasons for accepting N70,000 as national minimum wage was the understanding that the pump price of pms would not be increased even as we knew that N70,000 was not sufficient. We recall vividly when Mr President gave us the devil’s alternatives to choose from: either N250,000 as minimum wage (subject to the rise of the pump price between N1,500 and N2,000) and N70,000 (at old pms rates), we opted for the latter because we could not bring ourselves to accept further punishment on Nigerians. But here we are, barely one month after and with government yet to commence payment of the new national minimum wage, confronted by a reality we cannot explain. It is both traumatic and nightmarish. Yet, when we told government that it’s approach to resolving the fuel subsidy contradi...

Image
Nigeria can’t achieve 30% reduction in malnutrition by 2025, say nutritionists Citing worsening poverty and food insecurity in the country, nutrition experts have said Nigeria will not be able to achieve the 2016 National Policy on Food and Nutrition target of reducing malnutrition by 30 percent in 2025, especially among children under five. The nutritionists maintained that the country was not on the path to achieving the goals of the policy which would cease to exist after next year. They lamented that since the first National Food and Nutrition Policy was launched in 2001, the government had continued to fail in achieving its goals of reducing the malnutrition burden in the country, especially among children under five. With less than a year remaining before the expiration of the second nutrition policy, the experts cautioned that without increased funding and strong political will on the part of the government, the 2025 target would still be a mirage like the former. Recall th...

I'm not going to be single  for long,” Congolese pastor Marcello Tunasi on his widowerhood  3 months after the death of his wife Blanche Tunasi following a medical operation, the Congolese pastor reveals that he is thinking of remarrying because celibacy is not in his destiny.  Having lost his zest for life, he seems to have already accepted the loss of his wife, and reassures his faithful that he will always continue to preach the word of God, because it was he who entrusted him with this mission, not his late wife.  It should be noted that widowhood for a woman in Africa must last for a minimum of 9 months to a year! Even if this deadline passes, she will still receive judgements if she remarries straight away.️  But pastor Marcelo is proving once again that there are exceptions to the rule for men.

ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES SUSPENDS FLIGHT TO ERITREA CAPITAL. (PHOTO).

Image
Ethiopian Airlines suspends flights to Eritrea Capital Ethiopian Airlines has halted flights to Eritrea, citing challenging operating conditions. The suspension comes after Eritrea announced it would end all Ethiopian Airlines flights by the end of the month, according to Africa news agency. Flights between the two nations had resumed in 2018, following a peace agreement that ended two decades of hostility and led to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Diplomatic sources suggest the flight suspension indicates a deterioration in relations between Addis Ababa and Asmara, though a return to conflict is not expected. The two countries previously severed ties in 1998 due to a border war, and tensions have resurfaced following Eritrea's exclusion from peace talks that ended the Tigray conflict. Ethiopian Airlines, Africa's largest by revenue, announced it would assist affected passengers with rebooking or refunds but did not specify the exact nature of...

The former presidential candidate of the party denied reports that he regrets joining the APC. Amaechi’s ally and confidant, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, made the disclosure in a statement on Monday. He refuted claims that the former Rivers State Governor had expressed regret over his decision to join the APC. Eze stated that Amaechi never granted an interview to any media outlet expressing regret over his membership in the party, and that the reports were entirely false. He said, “Ordinarily, I wouldn’t have decided to join issues with undemocratic merchants on their ill-fated assumption concerning the political life of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. “Doing so definitely will amount to glorifying detractors, backstabbers, and habitual blackmailers, who are threatened by Amaechi’s silence in the affairs of the ruling All Progressiv...

Don’t be partisan, it will hurt you, Fubara tells Rivers CP, officers Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has advised partisan police officers who abandon their core professional responsibilities to pursue vested political interests to know that the enmity they fuel and eventually create will hurt them in the long run.
