 Noise pollution: Lagos seals five churches, 19 hotels The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has temporarily shut down no fewer than five churches and 19 hotels over noise pollution between March 23 and April 26  Calculations by our correspondent also showed that no fewer than four markets and shopping complexes were also shut down over noise pollution and other environmental infractions. The churches that have been temporarily sealed include St Monica’s Hall of Our Lady of Lord’s Catholic Church, Christ Rock of Fire Ministry, Wonderful Bible Prayer Ministries, God’s Porch Ministries, and an unnamed Catholic Church Some of the hotels affected are School2bar, Blue Seasons Hotel and Suites, Sulerious Lakeside Hotel, Monero Hotel and Suites, and Lekki Hotel and Suites. POLICE TO BEGIN STOP,SEARCH OPERATION IN FCT.

         The Police Command in the FCT said it would soon embark on rigorous stop-and-search operation to check the rising cases of car theft in the territory. The command’s spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja. “The command is going to embark on vigorous stop-and-search operation along the highways of the FCT, as such, members of the public are hereby advised to always have proof of ownership of their cars in their possession to avoid embarrassment. “As a result of the seeming rise in cases of theft of motor vehicles within FCT, especially the ones that are easily removed from where they are parked, the command is poised to take necessary action to stem the tide of the menace,“he said.        The Lagos State Government has clarified the ongoing insinuations and diverse interpretations given to the recently unveiled new Awolowo statue claiming that “It is a piece of artwork expressing the Artist’s impression of the late Sage and not a photograph’’, adding that it can be subjected to several interpretation. IGP INAUGURAES 500-UNIT HOUSING ESTATE FOR POLICE PESONNEL IN LAGOS NAMED AFTER BUHARI YESTERDAY.{PHOTOS}.

        The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim kpotun-Idris, on Thursday inaugurated 500 police housing estate constructed for officers and men of the force in Lagos, named after President Muhammad Buhari at Badagry in Lagos. The house was built in partnership with Remax Realtors  Speaking at the ceremony, IGP Idris said that the houses were built as of effort to alleviate the accommodation problem of the officers and men of the force. He said the gesture was also inline with President Muhammad Buhari's change mantra of providing a conducive accommodation for all categories of civil servants in the country. The IGP said the Corporative Housing Estate, which is built at Onowo, Badagry in Lagos, was to tackle the police housing deficits.          The Sokoto/Kebbi/Zamfara Area Command has intercepted and arrested a Toyota Carina Car with registration number BRK 53 MF carrying Two Pieces of Elephant Tusk weighing a total of 65kg, along Nigeria/Benin border at Lolo Border Area in Kebbi State. The Customs Area Controller, Sokoto/Kebbi/Zamfara Area Command, Compt. Nasir, A. while inspecting the tusk at the Command Headquarters in Sokoto de scribed the seizure as part of Customs contribution to the fight against the poaching of endangered species in Africa where the trade in Elephant tusks constitute part of the illegal Ivory trade that has led to the endangerment of Elephant species in Africa. He commended the Officers and men of Lolo border station and urged them to be more vigilant especially within this era of mass proliferation of small arms and light weapons across Africa and other illegal trades.
