 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud.   SECURITY IN ANAMBRA: POLICE RESCUE FIFTEEN ABDUCTED CORPS MEMBERS ALONG ISSEKE, IHIALA ROAD. Anambra State Police Operatives, by 11:15 am today, 14/2/2023 responding to a distress call along Isseke, Ihiala road, rescued unhurt fifteen abducted Corps members from NYSC Orientation Camp Eziama-Obaire, Nkwerre, LGA, Imo State.  Information reveals, that the Corps members, finished their three weeks of orientation programs today and were en route to Lagos before their vehicle was intercepted at total junction Ihiala, by yet unidentified armed men in unmarked white Toyota Hilux. Their vehicle was diverted to Isseke, Ihiala-Orlu expressway where the gunmen kept them hostage. Fake EFCC Chairman Arrested In Abuja The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, arrested one Salman Umar Hudu, a 38-year-old indigene of Kano, at a hotel in Abuja, for falsely representing himself as the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, and other officers of the Commission, and obtaining N100, 000.00(One Hundred Thousand Naira) from a person he convinced that he can ‘handle’ any matter with the EFCC. The suspect has given useful information and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation

Gov. Abiodun to shut commercial banks rejecting old naira notes  Ogun State governor,  Prince Dapo Abiodun, has warned that the State government would shut down any Commercial Banks operating in the state that refused to accept old naira notes. The warning is sequel to complains received from the people by the state government that commercial banks and some filling stations are rejecting the old naira notes as legal tender. The governor spoke on Tuesday while addressing market men and women at Itoku Kampala market in Abeokuta, as part of his reelection campaign to Abeokuta North  Local Government Areas. Abiodun , who frowned at the action of the banks, noted that since the new naira notes was not available, commercial banks must accept the old notes to ease the suffering of the people. 25 YEAR OLD GOALKEEPER FALLS ON THE PITCH AND DIES AFTER DEFENDING A PENALTY Case happened in West Flanders, Belgium A 25-year-old athlete has died after fainting on the field. The case happened in Belgium this Saturday (11), when Winkel Sport B faced SK Westrozebeke. The goalkeeper Arnee Espeel saved a penalty and then passed out. The game was paralyzed, medical assistance was called and tried to revive the young man. Our goalkeeper got up as quickly as possible to catch the ball, but fell afterwards. It was truly a horrific watch - said the team's assistant head coach Stefaan Dewerchin. According to Vrt Nws website, Arnee was transferred to a hospital, but did not resist and passed away. The cause of death has not been revealed, as the autopsy result will not be available until Monday (13). On this same date, members of Winkel Sport B will pay tribute to the athlete through the streets of the village of Sint-Eloois-Winkel in West Flanders.  One more photo below.

Man Convicted In Makurdi for Airtime Fraud The Makurdi Zonal Command of the EFCC on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, secured the conviction and sentencing of one Akende Gbande Mark before Justice N.I.Afolabi of the Federal High Court, sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State on one count charge of fraud.   Mark, sometime between July and September, 2020 in Makurdi, Benue State with intent to defraud did transfer airtime in the aggregate sum of N211,300 from Access Bank Account No. 3024934975 belonging to one Danjuma Bello to his Airtel line No. 08166413766 using an unauthorized access device and thereby committed an offence.  The defendant pleaded 'guilty' to the charge. Upon his plea, the prosecution counsel, M. Yusuf prayed the Court to convict and sentence him as charged.  Justice Afolabi convicted and sentenced Gbande to pay a fine of N150,000 (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) with a warning to desist from any criminal act forthwith.
