It would appear male lawyers are more successful. Appointing Caretaker Govt in Anambra LGAs Illegal, APC Tells Soludo The All Progressives Congress, Anambra State chapter, has kicked against the continuous adoption and appointment of local government caretaker chairmen in Anambra State instead of conducting elections, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports. The party described the action as “illegal” and “provocative”, a move it said, started from the administrations of former governors Peter Obi and Willie Obiano. In a statement on Tuesday, the Anambra State Publicity Secretary of APC, Okelo Madukaife, said caretaker governments are illegal and a clear constitutional violation, specifically on Section 7 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended. Madukaife added that the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo will be held responsible in the event of any anarchy arising from the state government’s “white-eyed” challenge to the Nigerian Constitution.  

FEDERAL MINISTRY OF FINANCE, BUDGET AND NATIONAL PLANNING.  Press and Public Relations Unit PRESS RELEASE  THE FG, STATES AND LGCs SHARE N802.407 BILLION FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE, 2022. The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), at its Meeting shared a total sum of N802.407 billion to the three tiers of government, as federation allocation for the month of June, 2022. From this stated amount, inclusive of Gross Statutory Revenue and Value Added Tax (VAT), the Federal Government received N321.859 billion, the States received N245.418 billion, the Local Government Councils got N182.330 billion, while the Oil producing states received N52.799 billion as derivation, (13% of Mineral Revenue). The communiqué issued by the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) at the end of the meeting, indicated that the Gross Revenue available from the Value Added Tax (VAT) for June 2022 was N193.827 billion. English Teachers Hold Annual Workshop In Awka The English Language Teachers Association of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter is holding its annual workshop in Awka. The teachers from primary and secondary schools, drawn from across Anambra state converged on the premises of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board,ASUBEB, for the workshop. In a paper presentation titled "Grammar Content in English Language Teaching in Contemporary Times",a retired Head of Department, Schools and Education Quality Assurance Department, Awka Zone,Mr Benson Ibe, proposed to the Association to take up the issue of the revision of grammar they present to students to be in line with prevailing global practice. He also suggested that the association should set up a committee at the national level to do this and make recommendations to the government on English Language curriculum of the nation. Court Jails Undergraduate 12months for Cheating, Personation in Kwara Justice Adenike Akinpelu of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 convicted a 23-year-old student of Federal University of Technology, FUT, Minna, Niger State, one Mohammed Bello, for offences bordering on cheating by personation. Bello, who claimed to hail from Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State allegedly posed as a white female with intent to defraud unsuspecting victims The defendant was prosecuted on two-count charge by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC. On April 22, 2022, the EFCC while acting on credible intelligence arrested Bello alongside other suspected fraudsters at Agric Estate, Sango area of Ilorin, Kwara State. The defendant did not only admitted to committing the crime, but pleaded guilty to the charge upon arraignment.

GOV. ORTOM GIVES BENUE LECTURERS 1-MONTH ULTIMATUM TO RESUME WORK The governor gave the directive during an expanded caucus meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Makurdi. Ortom said he is not owing ASUU and so, they shouldn’t be on strike. “Why would they be collecting salaries and at the same time allowing the students and parents to suffer in the name of solidarity strike? enough is enough,” the governor said. Senators Stage Walkout Over Call For Buhari’s Impeachment Senators from opposition parties on Wednesday staged a walkout following a call to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari. This followed a mild drama that played out during the plenary in the upper chamber of the National Assembly in Abuja, the nation’s capital. The Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Phillip Aduda, had raised a point of order asking the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, to discuss the security situation in the country and the impeachment of President Buhari. But Senator Lawan, who presided over the plenary, declined the request of the minority leader, saying the point of order raised fell flat on its face. Terrorists’ Threats Forced Abuja Government School Students To Write 13 Exams In One Day Some government schools in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, following the threat of terrorists to attack the Federal Government Colleges, made their students to write up to 13 papers in a day in order to shut down their schools. The Federal Ministry of Education had ordered the closure of all schools in the nation’s capital. The directive came at a time when students were writing their third term examination. In order to comply, school authorities made students rush their ongoing examination, Daily Trust reports. A student of Kubwa Model Junior Secondary School, Abuja, lamented how their teachers made them write 13 subjects on Tuesday. “We went to the school with preparation to write only one or two papers, but we ended up writing 13 subjects in a single day,” he said. Fayose Undergoes Back Surgery Abroad  Former Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose, on Tuesday, July 26, underwent a back surgery. Recall that the ex-governor said he was attacked during the 2018 Ekiti state governorship election. He attended one of the rallies with a neck collar and wept saying he was in severe pains. His brother, Isaac, who shared video and photos from his hospital bed, said the former governor has undergone two major surgical operations within five months, one for his neck which happened in February and another one for his back. According to him, the neck and back problem resulted from the attack on the former governor during the 2018 Ekiti governorship election. More photos below.

Protesters Mock Ngige With ‘Okija Priest’ Banner A banner mocking the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, has been spotted at the protest of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Abuja on Wednesday. The NLC is protesting the Federal Government’s failure to address the demands of striking university workers.  The banner which featured a masquerade with Ngige's face said, “This Okija priest must be banished from our universities. Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Obinabo, Rescues 17year old Chikamnanyo from abusive guardians, charges them to court. By  Blessing Austin-Nweke Chidinma Ikeanyionwu Social media was agog when a video of a young boy of 17 year old whose guardians brutally abused trended online.  Reacting to the news over the weekend, the women and social welfare commissioner, Mrs Ify Obinabo quickly reached out to necessary individuals and authorities, rescued the young boy and brought him to Awka. Interacting with the boy whose name is Chikamnanyo Olisaemeka from Nnewi, he explained that his mother handed him over to his uncle in February but since then his life hasn’t been the same. Young Chikamnanayo further stated that his uncle Mr. Oluchukwu Olisaemeka and his wife Ebere Olisaemeka usually starve him and on some days feeds him once a day.
