 Former Delta Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa Arrested By EFCC Over Alleged Diversion Of N1.3trn By Freeborn Abraye Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, for alleged diversion of N1.3 trillion 13% derivation fund from the federation account between 2015 and 2023.  The Plateau State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with international NGOs; Both Ends Believing (BEB) and Association of Orphanages and Homes operators in Nigeria to create digital identities for children in orphanages.  The MoU aims to find permanent, safe, and caring families for children in orphanages. Through the Children First Software, the MoU will help children living in institutions unite with loving families. Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by the State Commissioner for Women affairs, Caroline Panglang Dafur, said the state would support the initiative and also track fake orphanages operating in the state and prosecute anyone involved in child trafficking.

 A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an arrest warrant for Dana Air Managing Director, Hathiramani Ranesh, after he failed to appear in court for trial.  Justice Obiora Egwuatu granted the order on Monday following an application from the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, who filed six charges against Ranesh and two others. The judge directed that Ranesh must appear in court on January 13, 2025, before any preliminary objections will be considered.

 Lost phone leads to CP charges for a Kentucky man. According to the Madisonville Kentucky Police, a citizen found a lost phone earlier this week. As the individual who discovered the phone began to look for clues as to its owner on the device, he came across disturbing content. After the phone was turned over to the police, authorities executed a search warrant for the device. They were then able to confirm the disturbing content and identify the owner of the phone.  Detectives brought 40-year-old William Mayes in for questioning and he admitted to downloading and viewing the CP found on the device. William Mayes was taken into custody at the Hopkins County, Kentucky jail and his bond has been set at $10,000.

 An off duty California deputy saves child from car stuck on railroad tracks with only seconds to spare. Michael Castaneda is a deputy with the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department, however his heroics on a September afternoon occurred when he was off duty and heading home. Castaneda was behind a car at a railroad crossing when the gate began to close. As the driver tried to get out of the predicament the situation only became even more dire when the vehicle became stuck in gravel. When Castaneda noticed that instead of running away, the female driver was frantically trying to remove something from the backseat, he realized there must be another passenger. Castaneda sprang into action jumping from his vehicle and barreling headlong into the life or death race. As he approached he saw the woman place one child on the ground as she climbed back in to retrieve a second child.  Texas man found guilty of taking the life of his stepdaughter's ex after he threatened to share her nude photos.  A Texas jury has found 42-year-old Jessie Brown guilty in the 2015 shooting death of John Franco. According to witnesses, Brown had become enraged with Franco after he had threatened to share indecent photos of Brown's stepdaughter.  Brown and 2 other individuals had driven around with the intention of assaulting Franco if they found him. However when their paths crossed with Franco, Brown exited the vehicle and discharged a firearm through the driver's side window of Franco's vehicle. The round fatally struck Franco in the upper left side of his head. Jessie Brown was sentenced to 40-years in prison.

 As political tensions rise in Assam ahead of the by-polls, another incident of pre-poll violence has been reported from the Samaguri Assembly constituency. The incident occurred in Juria, within the Samaguri Assembly seat, which is set to go to the polls on November 13. A BJP worker, identified as Akbar Ali, was allegedly attacked by unidentified miscreants while returning home from the Kesakhaiti market in Samaguri. Ali sustained serious injuries in the attack and was initially treated at the Kawoimari health center. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to a hospital in Nagaon for further medical attention. This attack follows a previous incident of pre-poll violence on October 15, where another BJP worker was killed in the Samaguri constituency, highlighting a concerning trend of escalating violence as the by-election approaches.  Israeli Army captures alleged Iranian intelligence operative in Syria The Israeli military said they have detained a man in Syria allegedly gathering intelligence on Israel’s army in the border area. In a statement, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) identified the man as Ali Soleiman al-Assi, a Syrian national, describing him as “an Iranian terror network operative.” The IDF said al-Assi was “detained” and transferred to Israel, and that the operation took place “in recent months.” “His activities included gathering intelligence on IDF troops in the border area for future terror activity of the network,” the IDF said. Video footage released by the IDF shows soldiers from the Egoz commando unit, along with field interrogators, conducting a nighttime raid on a one-story building.  Human Rights Radio goes off air in protest of detained minors Abuja-based Human Rights Radio has gone off air to protest the arrest of minors during the #EndBadGovernance protest. Ahmed Isah, owner of the station, announced this  while featuring on the Berekete family, a breakfast programme. Isah, who used to anchor the radio program every week day, was not in the studio in the morning, due to what he described as a shock he experienced since the condition of the children became known after they were arraigned on Friday.  President Bola Tinubu has directed the Attorney General of the Federation to do everything possible to ensure the immediate release of minors detained by the Nigeria Police in connection with the recent protests without prejudice to whatever legal processes are ongoing. The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs has also been directed to ensure the safe return of all the minors to their families while an investigation has been opened into the circumstances leading to their prolonged detention.

 Chad threatens to withdraw from multinational security force Chad's interim President Mahamat Idriss Deby has threatened to withdraw the Central African country from a multinational security force, which he said had failed in its task of tackling insurgent groups in the Lake Chad region, Reuters reported. Deby made the statement on Sunday during a visit to the region, which sits in part of western Chad and also Nigeria, Niger, and Cameroon. Around 40 Chadian soldiers were killed in an attack there by suspected Boko Haram militants in late October. Announcing the launch of an operation against the attackers, Deby said he was considering withdrawing from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), made up of troops from the countries bordering Lake Chad. The joint force's work has been complicated by divisions and a lack of cooperation, but the withdrawal of Chad would represent a major blow as its armed forces are among the most respected in the region.  Terry Rosoman, 39, from south Wales, is planning to run 75 miles (120 km) over 24 hours to create a GPS drawing of male genitals.  His aim is to raise awareness for men’s mental health and fundraise for Movember, a charity focused on issues like mental health and prostate cancer. Rosoman, who overcame his own struggles with health and addiction, believes the bold shape will help reach a larger audience, particularly men. He will start his challenge at Abergavenny railway station on Friday at sunset and hopes to finish by the same time Saturday. Rosoman is experienced in endurance events, having previously climbed Pen Y Fan ten times in a day and completed a 50-mile ultramarathon with weights.   Minimum Wage: Gov Abdulrazaq approves bonus for Kwara workers to ease economic burden  Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has approved a financial bonus that is equivalent to the monthly PAYE obligation for every civil servant in the state, including local government workers. The emergency support measure will last for at least three months, according to a statement by the Commissioner for Finance Dr. Hauwa Nuru. "This bonus has been approved as a buffer to bridge the gap that the correct PAYE deduction may have wrought on the newly implemented mininum wage. It is meant to serve as a soothing balm as workers adjust to the PAYE that was just correctly implemented in line with the Personal Income Tax Act," she said.  "The payment of the bonus is effective from October and will run till December 2024.  Minister inaugurates builders’ disciplinary tribunal The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, has inaugurated a seven-member Disciplinary Tribunal for Registered Builders of Nigeria. This was disclosed in a recent statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Salis Haiba. The statement noted that the disciplinary tribunal was charged with the duty of considering and determining any case of infraction by the members referred to it by the panel established by the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria. Bankole Olowookere’s side were rewarded for their exemplary behavior in the tournament. The Flamingos picked the least number of bookings during the competition. The West Africans were eliminated by the United States of America in the quarterfinals, going down to a 2-0 loss. 65-YEAR-OLD MAN WAS ALLEGEDLY BEATEN TO DEATH BY HIS 34-YEAR-OLD SON IN INDIA. (PHOTO).

 In a tragic incident in Agartala, Tripura, a 65-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his 34-year-old son on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Kajal Das, was a retired official from the state Fisheries department. According to police reports, Das was fatally attacked with an iron rod by his son, Abhrajit, during an argument at their home in the College Tilla area of West Tripura district. Neighbors reported that the altercation began over a financial dispute, with Abhrajit allegedly demanding money from a recent land sale made by his father. Following the attack, police officials, including SDPO Sadar Deba Prasad Roy and teams from Agartala East police station, quickly arrived at the scene. However, the accused had already fled but was later apprehended by police that night. Residents of the neighborhood shared that Abhrajit had a history of violent behavior and addiction, and had reportedly assaulted his father on previous occasions.  LASG ANNOUNCES TRAFFIC DIVERSION AT MILE 2 FOR TRANSPORT INTERCHANGE CONSTRUCTION  The Lagos State Government has announced that traffic will be diverted at Loop 1 on the Apapa bound lane and Loop 4 on the Badagry bound lane at Mile 2 for a duration of 15 months for the construction work of the Transport Interchange Terminal that will integrate Rail, Bus, Water and Non–Motorised Transportation.  The commencement date for the construction is scheduled from Monday, 11th November, 2024, to Monday, 16th February 2026. Consequently, Motorists are hereby enjoined to use alternative routes as follows:   Motorists heading to Oshodi from Apapa will have through traffic and vice versa.    Motorists heading to Badagry from Apapa will continue their journey on the Apapa - Oshodi Expressway and take a turn into Akinwande Road to link Coker and access the Lagos - Badagry Expressway to continue their journeys.    Motorists heading to Lagos from Badagry will also have through traffic and vice versa.

 The Court of Appeal has discharged and acquitted former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen. The appellate court in a judgment overturned the conviction of the Umar Danladi tribunal, which found Justice Walter Onnoghen, guilty of false asset declaration at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.                  Justice Abba Mohammed, who passed the judgment on the terms of settlement by the Federal Government and Justice Onnoghen, ordered that the four bank accounts previously ordered to be forfeited be returned to him.

  Tinubu Swears In Seven New Ministers President Bola Tinubu has sworn in seven newly-appointed ministers at the Council Chambers in Abuja.  Those sworn in include Nentawe Yilwatda as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi as the Minister of Labour & Employment; Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu as the Minister of State Foreign Affairs. Others are Jumoke Oduwole (Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment (Trade and Investment), Idi Mukhtar Maiha (Minister of Livestock Development), Yusuf Abdullahi Ata (Minister of State, Housing, and Urban Development), and Suwaiba Said Ahmad as the Minister of State Education. Monday’s swearing-in came days after their appointments by President Tinubu and subsequent confirmation by the Senate.

 Customs Facilitates First Shipment from Nigeria to Kenya Under AfCFTA The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has facilitated Nigeria's first shipment to Kenya, with Lucky Fibres, a subsidiary of the Tolaram Group, becoming one of the first companies to ship goods to Kenya under the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA).
