 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

Man Bags Fifteen Months imprisonment in Gombe over Fake Tony Elumelu Foundation Grant A Gombe State High Court presided over by Justice Daurabo S. Sikkam on March 3, 2022 convicted and sentenced one Wadaji Umar Lawan to fifteen months imprisonment on two counts of forgery and attempt to commit an offence. Lawan, sometime in February 2021 was alleged to have made representation to the public, offering to procure grants for them from the Tony Elumelu Foundation and collected monies to the tune of Two Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N2,500,000). Upon the receipt of the intel on the activities of the defendant, undercover operatives pretending to be interested in the fraudulent scheme presented marked Ten Thousand Naira (N10,000) each to the fraudsters. They were subsequently arrested. Senate Throws Out President Buhari's Electoral amendment Bill The Senate has thrown out the request of President Muhammadu Buhari for amendment of section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act which prevents appointive political office holders from contesting for election from party primary level without resigning. The request was rejected after the Senate Leader, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (APC Kebbi North) made the lead debate for the second reading of the bill on Wednesday. The Senators kicked against it and voted no when put to voice votes by the Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

Umahi Tenders Apology To NBA, Appeal Sack The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi on Wednesday reversed the alleged uncomplimentary statement made against a judge of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, justice Inyang Ekwo and tendered an apology to the Nigeria Barr Association, NBA. #ASUU Strike: Motorists Stranded As Students Block Lagos-ibadan Expressway Hundreds of commuters were stranded on Tuesday along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, following a protest by the National Association of Nigerian Students. The students had blocked the expressway, protesting the ongoing one-month warning strike imposed upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, having failed to strike a bargain with the Federal Government vis-a-vis the 2009 FG-ASUU Agreement. “Our time is being wasted. Age will be against us by the time we graduate and go into the labour market. “We will be forced to pay extra rents as most of us are staying in private hostels while some of our colleagues will be distracted, discouraged and will probably jettison schooling for illegal activities,” NANS Chairman in Ogun State, Mr Damilola Simeon said.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has noted with utter dismay, the unfortunate and totally unacceptable reaction of His Excellency, Dave Umahi to the Judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja delivered on 8th March 2022, coram Honourable Justice Inyang Ekwo which inter-alia ordered him and H.E. Mr. Eric Kelechi Igwe to vacate the offices of Governor and Deputy Governor, respectively, of Ebonyi State on grounds of their defection from the Peoples’ Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. Following the Judgment, Umahi, in the course of a Press Conference – video evidence of which is currently making the rounds on both new and mainstream media – threw caution to the wind and deployed very uncomplimentary adjectives and intemperate language in characterising both the Judgment and Hon. 7 officers injured, vehicle damaged as NDLEA arrests Taraba drug kingpin . As Marwa orders new operational guidelines to protect operatives on duty Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested a notorious drug dealer at Nukai market, along Jalingo-Wukari road in the Taraba state capital, Jalingo, Micha Godwin, during which the anti-narcotic officers came under attack and at least seven of them were injured and one of their vehicles damaged. Despite the attack, the officers however managed to arrest their target after recovering some quantities of illicit drugs from the suspect and thereafter retreated to take the wounded to the hospital for treatment.  Following intelligence, the operatives on Tuesday 8th March stormed the market at about 2.30pm to arrest the drug dealer and evacuate illicit substances in his warehouse. PRESS RELEASE DEATH WHILE IN SERVICE: IGP MOURNS DIG JOSEPH EGBUNIKE, CONDOLES WITH FAMILY The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+),NPM, fdc on behalf of his Management team, and Officers of the  Nigeria Police Force, regrets to announce the demise of DIG Joseph Obiajulu Egbunike, PhD, ACTI, mnin, FCNA, which occurred at about 9pm of March 8, 2022 at the National Hospital, Abuja, after a brief illness. DIG Egbunike was until his death the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department and the supervisory DIG in charge of the South-East.  DIG Egbunike was a dedicated and seasoned police officer who served the nation in various capacities including as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Police Accounts and Budget.
