The President has also approved the appointment of Prince Ebitimi Amgbare as the Managing Director/CEO of the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority (NDRBDA). Dr. Barikor is an academic and politician. He was a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2015, while Prince Amgbare is a retired naval officer and former commissioner in Bayelsa State. Court Jails Engineer 11 Years For N61.1m Fraud In Lagos  Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Friday, June 9, 2023, convicted and sentenced one Kayode Adegbaju, an engineer, to 11 years imprisonment for N61.1m fraud. Adegbaju, alongside his company, Warewater Limited, was arraigned by the Lagos Zonal  Command of the Economic and Financial  Crimes Commission, EFCC, sometime in 2020 on a five-count charge bordering on stealing, conspiracy to commit felony and issuance of dud cheques to the tune of N61, 160,000. In the course of the trial, the prosecution counsel, Fadeke Giwa, called a witness, an operative of the EFCC, who was involved in the investigation of the alleged fraud, following a petition by the victim of the fraud, one Alhaji Usman Abiodun (now late) and the alter ego of Harafat Intergrated Service Limited, who accused the defendants of defrauding him of the said sum. I Could Have Slapped Kwankwaso At Aso Rock – Ganduje Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has said that he could have slapped his predecessor, Musa Kwankwaso if he had met him at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Ganduje said this while addressing State House reporters after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Friday. He accused Kwankwaso of masterminding the demolition in the state, adding that the demolitions in Kano were executed without due process and, therefore, breached the law. Some structures demolished include Haji camp, Daula Hotel, and shopping complexes around the Eid Prayer Ground in the state.  Kwankwaso lost the presidential election on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, although the party’s candidate, Abba Yusuf, won the Kano State Governorship election. What I Discussed With Traditional Leaders — Tinubu President Bola Tinubu said that he has asked the traditional rulers and their representatives from across the country to support his administration. He made the call during a meeting held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja on Friday. Tinubu disclosed this in a post on his Twitter page on Friday. The meeting is part of a series of engagements the president is having with key stakeholders since he assumed office on May 29. He tweeted, "I enjoyed my engagement, this morning, with a gathering of traditional rulers from across the country.  "In the course of our dialogue, I tasked them with supporting the administration’s efforts to ensure lasting peace and unity by promoting responsible behaviour and patriotism."

NUC Issues Provisional Licenses To 37 New Private Universities The National Universities Commission (NUC) has given provisional licences to the newly established 37 universities approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on May 15. Executive Secretary, of NUC, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed stated this at the presentation of provisional licences to the universities Friday in Abuja said the number of private universities in the country now stood at 147. Prof Rasheed, said the country now has 264 universities, as access to university education remained a challenge due to the high demand and increasing number of secondary school leavers. ”The Nigerian statistics of high demand of tertiary education is grossly inadequate. Statistics put the number of enrollment in tertiary institutions at 2.23 million which is about 12 percent of the total population of 220 million,” he said. Nigeria’s national under-20 women’s football team have been drawn to face Burundi in the second round of the 2024 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.   The draw was officially conducted by the Confederation of African Football in Cairo, Egypt.   Equatorial Guinea will face Libya, Togo will take on Guinea Bissau, and Mauritius will face off against Chad.   The winners from this round will then move on to the second round of the qualifiers.   In this round, Ethiopia will take on the winners of the Equatorial Guinea and Libya pairing, while Senegal will face off with Mali. Nigeria, the semi-finalists at the last edition of competition, will face Burundi while Ghana awaits the winners of the clash between Togo and Guinea Bissau.   The matches will take place between September 1 and September 10. While second qualifying round of matches will take place between Oct. 6 and Oct. 15, with the winners heading to the third round of qualifiers scheduled for Nov. 12 to Nov. 19.

IGP ORDERS POSTING OF SENIOR POLICE OFFICERS - As Abia gets new Commissioner of Police The Inspector-General of Police IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR, has ordered the posting of CP Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, fdc, to Abia State Police Command as the new Commissioner of Police in charge of the State and CP Mustapha Mohammed Bala, psc, to the Force Headquarters as the Commissioner of Police, Special Protection Unit. CP Kenechukwu holds a B.Sc (Hons) in Psychology from Anambra State University. He was appointed into the Nigeria Police Force in 1992, and has served in various operational, investigative, and administrative capacities in Ogun, Imo, FCT, Plateau, and Kaduna State Commands. Tinubu Receives Kwankwaso In Aso Rock  President Bola Tinubu has received in audience the Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Rabiu Kwankwaso at the State House in Abuja.  A former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jubrin, accompanied him to the Presidential Villa. The former Kano State governor had met Tinubu whom he contested against in the February 25 election but lost in France last month, making today’s meeting the second time the two leaders will be meeting after the elections. It is, however, their first meeting since Tinubu was sworn in as Nigeria’s President on May 29.
