The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. GOVERNOR SOLUDO INAUGURATES HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Friday, September 16, inaugurates Council for State Action on Business Enabling Reforms Programme (SABER). Programme Background: 1- The SABER Programme is a 3-year performance-based intervention jointly designed by the World Bank Technical team and the PEBEC Secretariat with support from the FMFBNP Home Finance Department (HFD) and the  Nigeria Governor’s Forum (NGF) Secretariat, to incentivise and strengthen the implementation of business enabling reforms across Nigeria. 2- Riding on the back of SFTAS, which has created a mutual accountability platform between the Federal Government and the States, the SABER will further consolidate and deepen gains from EoDB reforms implemented across the country. 3- In line with the NDP’s objectives, an enabled business environment will facilitate crowding in private investment at scale, which is needed to achieve Nigeria’s development priorities. COURTS STOPS SPORTS MINISTER, PINNICK FROM CONDUCTING NFF EXECUTIVE ELECTION A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday, restrained the Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, and President, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick from conducting the NFF executive election scheduled for Sept. 30 in Edo. Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a ruling on an ex-parte motion moved by counsel for the claimants, Celsus Ukpong, ordered the minister, Mr Pinnik or any person, acting on their instruction, to maintain a status quo pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction. “Counsel for the claimants informed the court that the defendants are taking action that will adversely affect the subject matter of this case. “Parties are hereby ordered to maintain status quo ante pending final order of this court,” he ruled. POLICE UNCOVER CANNABIS FARM IN ABUJA, ARREST SUSPECTED OWNER The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has uncovered a Cannabis farm and arrested the suspected owner, Thaddeus Joseph.  Spokesperson of the command, DSP Josephine Adeh, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, September 16, 2022, said the 32-year-old resident of Kado Estate Area of the FCT was arrested for the offence of being in possession of a commercial amount of leaves suspected to be Cannabis sativa. The suspect was arrested by a team of the Command attached to the Anti-Narcotics Section on September 7, 2022.  According to the PPRO, the arrest was based on credible information that the suspect cultivates a large farm of the prohibited plant at Godab Estate in the Life Camp Area of the FCT.  The spokesperson stated that the suspect in a voluntary statement confessed to having been in the practice for about two years. Suspected cultists kill YABATECH student . . A student of the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) Akoka, Lagos, identified as Korede Paul, was on Thursday, September 15, at about 10 pm, shot dead by gunmen suspected to be cultists. A student of the school who witnessed the incident said the deceased was behind him when he was shot in front of the Art complex in the institution and is said to be the second person to have been murdered this semester. It was also gathered that a female student also sustained a gunshot injury and has been rushed to the hospital for medical care. A video shared on Twitter shows the victim in a pool of blood. The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the killing said they are gathering more information about the incident. One more photo below.

‘Freedom Is Priceless’: Ice Prince says after being released from custody Nigerian artiste, Ice Prince Zamani, has said freedom is priceless after being released from the Ikoyi Prison. The “Oleku” singer was arrested for allegedly abducting and assaulting a police officer earlier in the month. Ice Prince on his Twitter page wrote, “Freedom is Priceless”. This comes days after the Lagos State Police Command spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, tweeted about Ice Prince’s arrest. “At 3 am today, @Iceprincezamani was stopped for driving without license plates. He agreed to be taken to the station,” Hundeyin said. “He, thereafter, abducted the police officer in his car, assaulted him, and threatened to throw him in the river. El-Rufai Lauds Military’s Offensive Against Terrorists Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has applauded security agencies for mounting a sustained offensive against terrorists, kidnappers and other criminals in the state. The governor made the commendation on Wednesday in Kaduna while declaring open the 4th edition of the Kaduna Book and Art Festival. “In the last six weeks there has been improved offensive operation against criminals and we are confident if it is sustained, people can drive comfortably without any security or taking of the train to Kaduna,” he said.
