 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

SENATE PRESIDENT CALLS FOR CLOSER TIES BETWEEN NIGERIA AND EGYPT, MOROCCO.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

      President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has called for closer bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Egypt and also with Morocco. Lawan made the call at a separate meeting with the Egyptian Ambassador in Nigeria, Assem Hanafi Elseify and also with the Moroccan Ambassador in Nigeria, Moha Ou Ali Tagma who paid him courtesy visits on Tuesday. Lawan said Egypt and Nigeria are leading countries in Africa and acknowledged that the two countries have had a very long relationship. "Nigeria has been quite supportive of Egypt and Egypt has been supportive of Nigeria. We need to expand and widen this cooperation and partnership between our two countries," Lawan said. COURT JAILS INTERNET FRAUDSTER NINE MONTHS,REMANDS ANOTHER IN PRISON CUSTODY.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

      The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, on Wednesday October 9, 2019, secured the conviction and sentencing of one Ayodeji Samuel Alaja to nine months imprisonment for possession of fraudulent documents before Justice Sherifat Solebo of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos. The convict was arraigned today by the EFCC on one-count charge of involvement in internet fraud. The count charge reads: "That you, Ayodeji Samuel Alaja, sometime in 2019 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, knowingly had in your possession documents containing false pretence." The convict pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him. In view of his guilty plea, the prosecution counsel, Ebareotu Pereagbe, informed the court that the convict had entered into a "plea bargain” with the Commission. The prosecution counsel, Pereagbe, therefore, reviewed the facts of the case, wherein the convict made a confessional

COURT JAILS ONE,REMANDS FOUR OTHERS IN IBADAN OVER INTERNET FRAUD.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE

     Justice Patricia Ajoku of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, sentenced one Alabi Okikiola to 12 months in prison after finding him guilty of fraudulent impersonation in a criminal charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office. The judge also ordered that four other suspected internet fraudsters be remanded in prison pending the d etermination of their bail applications. The accused - Falade Fisayo Abimbola, Arowojobe Femi Oluwaseun, Akinsipe Olalekan Gayus, and Ezekiel Rotimi Akinyele - were arraigned separately on different count charges bordering on obtaining money under false pretense, possession of fraudulent documents and money laundering. They all pleaded not-guilty to their respective charges, prompting the prosecution counsel, Dr. Ben Ubi and Babatunde Sonoiki, to pray the court for trial date and order to remand them in prison custody. The SF Course 5/2019 was inaugurated today, 9 October 2019, at the Regiment Training Centre (RTC) Annex in Bauchi. The Course, which is the seventh of such training programmes by the current NAF administration, is the first to be conducted at the newly established RTC Annex in Bauchi.       The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Office on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 secured the conviction of one Akinbamidele Femi John in a Kwara State High Court, presided over by Justice Mahmood Abdulgafar. The convict faced three-count charges, bordering on internet fraud and other fraud-related offences. Count one of the charge reads: "That you, Akinbamidele Femi John (a.k.a Brenda Jason) on or about 20th March, 2018 at Ilorin, Kwara State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court attempted to commit an offence by pretending to be Brenda Jason, a female with a gmail account: jasonbrenda00@gmail.com and thereby committed an offence contrary to sections 95 and 321 of the Penal Code Law and punishable under Section 324 of the same law."
