 Outcries Over State Recognised Vigilantes In North-West   The security outfits established by various state governments, especially in the North-West, are being accused of indiscriminate arrests and killing of suspects, as well as innocent people without recourse to judicial processes, findings by Daily Trust Saturday revealed. But those charged with the responsibility of managing the outfits have debunked the claims of extrajudicial killings, though some admitted what they described as “overzealousness” by some of the operatives. It was alleged that in some states, long lists of suspected bandits, their supporters or sympathisers have been arrested and ultimately killed, and such acts are allegedly being carried out without recourse to the police and other law enforcement agencies. ORTOM SEEKS DIVINE INTERVENTION OVER HERDSMEN KILLINGS IN BENUE Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State at the weekend sought divine intervention to end the worsening security and other challenges confronting the state. The governor, who stated that no challenge was too big for God to solve permanently, said he has been doing the best to ensure that people of the state have comfortable lives. Ortom’s home came under serious attack penultimate week as over 16 of his kinsmen were brutally murdered with the latest been the killing of two police men and a lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication at the Benue State University, Makurdi. He said the continued attacks on Benue communities and killings of innocent people by Fulani herdsmen was not because of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law, but the hidden agenda of the aggressors and the failure of the Federal Government to contain the situation. CJN IBRAHIM TANKO RESIGNS The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammad has resigned from office. According to Arise News, he reportedly tendered his resignation in a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, citing health reasons. The development comes amid the corruption allegations some Supreme Court judges levelled against him. In a protest memo signed by 14 Supreme Court judges, Muhammad was accused of not giving justices their legitimate entitlements. The Supreme Court expressed their concerns over their budgetary allocations that have not been increased in the last four years. Some of the issues raised by the justices in the letter include the failure to replace dilapidated vehicles, accommodation problems, poor healthcare services at the Supreme Court clinic, and poor electricity supply. The justices also lamented the increase in electricity tariffs, no modified allowances to reflect the increase in diesel prices and lack of internet services in their chambers.

COAS EXTOLS THE CONFIDENCE OF KANO POPULACE IN THE FIGHT  AGAINST INSECURITY The Chief of Army Staff  (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has expressed his profound appreciation to the good people of Kano state for thier genuine support to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in the fight against insecurity. The COAS made the commendation on Saturday 25 June 2022, during the commissioning ceremony of multiple projects at Dawakin Tofa Science Secondary School Kano. The indelible projects, were  executed through the COAS special intervention project for Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) 2022. Ekiti Election: Pregnant Women Not in EFCC Custody, Suspects Held By Court Order The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to some reports in a section of the media, alleging that the Commission is detaining “a pregnant woman, nursing mother, others, over vote - buying", consequent on some arrests made in the wake of the recent governorship election in Ekiti State.   The Commission wishes to state that there is no iota of truth in the reports. There is no pregnant woman among the suspects arrested on allegation of vote buying during the Ekiti governorship election. A pregnancy test conducted on all female suspects arrested during the Ekiti governorship poll at the Kwara State Hospital, Ilorin, returned negative. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu vowed that the State will remain a refugee-friendly city and provide economic opportunities to displaced persons legitimately seeking to rebuild their lives.  The Governor made the pledge during a commemorative event organised in Lagos to mark the World Refugees Day. Self-styled PA to Oyo State Governor Docked for Internet Fraud in Ibadan The Ibadan Zonal Command of the EFCC on June 23, 2022 arraigned one Babawale Daniel Olayinka before Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, on five count charges which borders on cybercrime. An identity card recovered from the defendant at the point of arrest on February 11, 2022, introduced him as a “Personal Assistant to the Oyo State Governor on Media Matters.” He was arrested alongside twenty-five others at Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State. The Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, spoke while monitoring the environment, noting that efforts were being intensified to clear any backlog of refuse and to stop acts of indiscriminate waste disposal around the city. No fewer than 137 properties were sealed last week by the Monitoring and Compliance Unit of Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA).  The enforcement exercise took place at 6 District Offices, Alimosho, Mosan Okunila, Egbe- Idimu, Ikorun Igando, Agbado- Oke Odo and Ayobo-Ipaja Properties that were sealed contravens the State Physical Planning Regulation. The sealed properties are mostly residential buildings which were converted into commercial use without recourse to Physical Planning Permit Laws. Also sealed are Industrial, Institutional and Commercial structures, which do not have Planning Permit. The Authority advise Property Owners and Developers in Lagos State to seek the input of professionals in Engineering, Building, Planning and Architecture before embarking on the building of any structures.
