  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.   The brother who strangled a Pakistani social media star dubbed the country's 'Kim Kardashian' to death in an honour killing was today freed following just six years behind bars after he was pardoned by his mother. Qandeel Baloch, 26, became famous for her suggestive and defiant posts which flew in the face of the nation's deeply patriarchal mores before her death in 2016. Her brother Muhammad Waseem was arrested and later sentenced to life in prison for strangling her, brazenly telling the press he had no remorse for the slaying because her behaviour was 'intolerable'. He appealed against the 2019 murder verdict and life sentence and today a court in the central city of Multan struck down the conviction after major witnesses retracted their testimony. Waseem's mother Anwar Mai had also submitted a statement in the court that she had pardoned him, his lawyer Sardar Mehboob said, though it  was not clear whether the court considered the mother's statemen

 Security Agents destroy Homes, burnt Houses in Ahiazu Mbaise, Imo State There was pandemonium as security operatives invaded Umuonyeoka Ihitteafoukwu and Okponkume communities in the Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State on Saturday and allegedly burnt down houses. On arriving in the communities, the security operatives, who allegedly came in seven vehicles, headed for the homes of their targets and set them ablaze after not meeting the suspected ESN members. An indigene of the community, identified simply as Emmanuella, said her grandma was injured during the raid and was currently unconscious. Man Bags 18 Months Imprisonment for Love Scam in Ilorin Justice Muhammed Sani of the Federal High Court in Ilorin on Monday, February 14, 2022 convicted and sentenced a 25 year-old Olaleye Olumide Paul from Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State to 18months imprisonment over offences bordering on internet fraud. Olaleye was one of the suspects arrested at Ogbomosho, Oyo State, on October 26, 2021 following actionable intelligence about activities of persons suspected to be fraudsters by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC.

EFCC Secures Final Forfeiture of Landed Properties Valued at Over N3.7 Billion The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on 14 February, 2022, secured the final forfeiture of 20 (twenty) landed properties valued at over N3, 007, 000, 000 (Three Billion and Seven Million Naira) belonging to a top military officer but controlled through proxies including late General Aminu Maude as well as companies such as Atlasfield Integrated Services Nigeria Limited, Marhaba Events Place, Aflac Plastics and Atlasfield Gas Plant Limited. Justice N. E Maha of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, granted the Order while ruling on the application by counsel to the EFCC, Cosmos Ugwu and Musa Isah.  The Court had in May, 2020 ordered the interim forfeiture of the properties following an ex parte application by the Commission, alleging that the assets were proceeds of unlawful activities. ASUU To Commence One-month Warning Strike  After serious deliberations that dragged into the early hours of Monday, the National Executive Council, NEC, of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has voted to embark on one-month warning strike to press home its demands from the government. A source at the meeting held in Lagos told Vanguard in confidence that the strike is to allow the Federal Government do the needful failure to which the union would go on an indefinite strike. “We just want to give the government a long rope hoping that it would see the need to avoid a total paralysis of academic activities in the nation’s universities.   Wanted DCP Abba Kyari, 4 others now in our custody —NDLEA Few hours after he was declared wanted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA over his involvement in a 25 kilograms Cocaine deal, the Nigerian Police Force has handed over the suspended DCP Abba Kyari, the erstwhile Commander of Intelligence Response Team (IRT) at the Force Intelligence Bureau of the Nigerian Police Force, to the anti-narcotic agency. Five of the wanted suspects namely: DCP Abba Kyari; ACP Sunday J. Ubua; ASP Bawa James; Inspector Simon Agirgba and Inspector John Nuhu were driven into the National Headquarters of NDLEA in Abuja at about 5pm on Monday 14th February to formally hand them over for interrogation and further investigation. The Agency wishes to assure that no stone will be left unturned to ensure that all suspects already in custody and those that may still be indicted in the course of investigation will face the full weight of the law at the end of the ongoing probe.
