 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

      A massive explosion and a serious shock wave shook the Lebanese capital city of Beirut on Tuesday. Emergency workers are responding to extensive damages and a high number of casualties. Videos of the huge blast, the cause of which is still unclear, quickly surfaced on social media. attributing the blast to confiscated high-explosive materials stored at the local port. Local media identified the material as sodium nitrate. According to a Lebanese source who spoke to journalist,at least 10 bodies have been taken to hospitals with hundreds of people wounded in a huge blast that ripped through Lebanon’s capital, Beirut. PMS MAY SELL FOR N150 PER LITRE THIS AUGUST AS MARKETERS ARE PUSHING FOR AN UPWARD REVIEW.{PHOTO}.

      This is coming after the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA ) announced an increase of the product to a band of N140.80 to N143.80 per litre in July. Prior to the July 1 hike, the agency had approved price band of N121.50 to N123.50 per litre for the product on May 1. However a source who spoke to The Nation said marketers are seeking a further increase in the price of PMS due to the soaring price of crude oil in the international market. It was further learnt that Brent Crude which sold for $43.24 per barrel in July, is currently selling for $44.03 per barrel. The source said... “We are now in the meeting to fix a new petrol price for the month of August. “We are asking the PPPRA to approve N150 per litre because the prices of crude oil have increased and there is no subsidy on the product. “You will hear the announcement of the new price around four o’clock today (Tuesday ).”.

     The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has unveiled the reviewed Nigeria Broadcasting Code which contains the Antitrust provision aimed at boosting local content and encouraging the growth of the local industry, among other provisions. In his remarks at the unveiling ceremony organized by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) in Lagos on Tuesday, the Minister said the Antitrust provision will boost local content and local industry due to laws prohibiting exclusive use of rights by broadcasters who intend to create monopolies and hold the entire market to themselves. Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on a 14-count amended charge of money laundering to the tune of over Six Million United States Dollars ($6,000,000). Count one of t he new charges against Adoke read: “That you Mohammed Bello Adoke, sometime in September 2013, in Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, made a cash payment of the sum of $2,267,400.00 (Two Million, Two Hundred and Sixty-Seven Thousand, Four Hundred United States Dollars) to one Rislaundeen Muhammed, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to the combined effects of Section 16(1) (d) and of Section 1(a) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2011(as amended) and punishable under Section 16(2)(b) of the same Act.” A new charge against Abubakar

      A 24-year-old woman has been arrested by the Lagos state police for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend to death over alleged cheating... The woman named Nkechi, aka Omalicha, allegedly attacked Auwal Suleiman, 26, yesterday, August 1st, 2020, at their residence in Sagbokoji Island, Apapa, Lagos State. The couple started dating in 2018 and began living together in 2019.      A father-of-three allegedly committed suicide in an uncompleted building in Umudiaka, Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State. Mr Emmanuel Eze is said to have taken his life on Sunday night, August 2, hours after a domestic fracas with his immediate family over a yet-to-be-identified matter. The deceased, from Eha-Alumona, also in the same local government but who resides with his family at Umudiaka, allegedly tried to strangle his sister during the fracas the occured on Sunday morning.      The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has secured the final forfeiture of N827, 679,098.32 (Eight Hundred and Twenty-Seven Million, Six Hundred and Seventy-Nine Thousand, Ninety-Eight Naira, Thirty-Two Kobo) from Flank Power Resources Limited and GMFD Ventures Limited, both of whom are firms linked to contractors with the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC. Matthew Edevbie is the Chief Exec utive Officer of Flank Power Resources Limited. The forfeiture followed the order of Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, sequel to an affidavit deposed to by an EFCC investigator, in which the Commission prayed the court for the forfeiture of the sum to the federal government of Nigeria, being proceeds of unlawful activity, traced to some contractors’ accounts with Zenith Bank.
