       Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon of the Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State has sentenced one Ifeanyi Uche to two years imprisonment with an option of fine of N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) for obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N325,000.00 (Three Hundred and Twenty-five Thousand Naira). The convict was arraigned on a one-count charge by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Makurdi Zonal offi ce, on Wednesday, March 4, 2020. The count reads: “That you, Ifeanyi Uche, sometime in October, 2019 in Gboko within the jurisdiction of this honourable Court with intent to defraud obtained the sum of N325,000.00 (Three Hundred and Twenty Five Thousand Naira) only from one Orbunde Nguvern Linda under pretence that she would be awarded a contract for the supply of fertilizer to Federal University of Agriculture, which you knew was false and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 1(1)(b) of Advance Fee Fraud and O...

     The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, arraigned four suspected criminals and a vessel before Justice A.M. Liman of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on a three-count charge bordering on illegal dealing in petroleum products. The defendants, Ukwuoma Ahamefula, Omeogor Nelson, Efemuaya Evans and Jude Eghreriniovo, were arrested alongside a vessel, MV Tim Begele, by the Niger ian Navy and subsequently handed over to the EFCC for prosecution. One of the counts reads: “That you, MV Tim Begele, Ukwuoma Ahamefula, Omeogor Nelson, Efemuaya Evans, Jude Eghreriniovo and others now at large on the 3rd of December, 2019, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, conspired among yourselves to commit an offence to wit: dealing in 3,911 metric tons of petroleum products without appropriate licence; and you, thereby, committed an offence contrary to Section 3(6) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap M17, Laws of ...

       The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, re-arraigned Ismaila Mustapha (aka Mompha), before Justice Mohammed Liman of a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, for alleged N32.9billion fraud. Mompha was first arraigned alongside his company, Ismalob Ventures on November 25, 2019 on a 14-count charge bordering on fraud, money laundering and running a foreign exchan ge business without the authorisation of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN. The defendant had pleaded “not guilty” to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N100million with one surety in like sum. The prosecution subsequently opened its case and presented witnesses from the CBN and the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering, SCUML.

      As part of efforts geared towards increasing public awareness about the COVID-19, the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday, engaged religious leaders in a sensitisation session on precautionary measures required to keep the disease at bay. The Honourable Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mr. Anofi Elegushi, while addressing the religious leaders, appealed to them to educate their members with the right information about the reality and severity of the disease, while also allaying fears that might have arisen from the identification of an infected person in Lagos.       President Muhammadu Buhari commends Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) for donating the handsome sum of N200 million to assist in combating the influx of Covid-19 into the country.
