  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. In an interview with Channels Television, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on media and publicity, Mr Garba Shehu lamented over the level of criticisms thrown at the president, asserting that leaders are not loved while in office. Citing the case of Goodluck Jonathan who he says was persecuted out of office, but has now become the favorite of many Nigerians, Mr Shehu was of the opinion that this same yearning will happen after Buhari has handed over to the next president.

N3.4b debt: Court blocks Oyo Govt’s accounts in four banks AHigh Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja has issued an order attaching funds standing to the credit of Oyo State Government and its agencies in four banks. The affected banks are First Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Wema Bank and Zenith Bank.  The funds, according to court filings, are to settle the outstanding balance of N3,374,889,425.60 from the judgment debt owed some former Local Government Chairmen and Councillors sacked on May 29, 2019 before the end of their tenure by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State. Justice A. O. Ebong issued the order while ruling on a motion ex-parte for garnishee order nisi filed by the ex-Chairmen and Councillors led by Bashorun Majeed Bosun Ajuwon and Idris Okusesi. INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION  PRESS RELEASE  CONDUCT OF SUPPLEMENTARY ELECTIONS The Commission met today Monday 27th March 2023 and reviewed the areas where supplementary elections are required to conclude the outstanding Governorship, National and State Assembly elections across the country.  It will be recalled that 26 State Governorship, 104 Senatorial, 329 Federal and 935 State constituency elections have been concluded and winners declared. Consequently, supplementary Governorship elections will be held in Adamawa and Kebbi States, 5 Senatorial Districts, 31 Federal and 58 State Assembly constituencies. Owing to the competitive nature of the elections, especially for legislative seats, supplementary elections will be held in just a few polling unit in some constituencies. A comprehensive list of the polling units by State, Local Government, Registration Area, registered voters and PVCs collected will be published on our website on or before Wednesday 29th March 2023.

Court Convicts Woman for N47m Fraud in Lagos Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, March 27, 2023, convicted one Adanu Blessing Ajumi, who was prosecuted for N47m fraud. Adanu, who is accused of trading under the name and style of Emerald Multipurpose Cooperative Society to defraud her victims in a purported agribusiness scheme, was charged with two counts bordering on obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to Section 1(1) and 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006, and stealing, contrary to Section 278 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2011. She pleaded "not guilty" to the charges when she was arraigned on December 19, 2019, thereby leading to her trial that commenced on September 14, 2020. Gunmen Kill 2 NSCDC Personnel In Imo March 27, 2023 Two personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Imo State have been allegedly killed by gunmen in the early hours of today Monday 28 March 2023. Information available indicates that the gunmen ambushed and killed the Operatives while driving through the EkeIsu market in Obiangwu Community, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of the state. The incident has been confirmed by the Imo State Command of the NSCDC. According to Channels Television, the state spokesman for the corps, Chimeziri Noel, said as part of the primary assignment and mandate of the agency, the officers were on routine monitoring of some critical national assets and infrastructure in the area when the incident occurred. Noel said the NSCDC officers were attacked and killed by bandits in the early hours of Monday, adding that their bodies had been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri.
